This tournament was a fantastic showcase of all of the talent present in the midwest, many of which will receive a major uptick in recruiting! Be on the lookout for the rest of my coverage from this event!
Pharrel Payne Pharrel Payne 6'9" | C Park Of Cottage Grove | 2022 State #84 Nation MN 2022 6’8 MN Select 16U Mantey- Park of Cottage Grove High School
Pharell is an enormous and strong paint presence. He sets bone-crushing screens that free up his teammates and is very aware on when to roll to the basket for easy looks or pop to try and stretch the floor. His tremendously long arms should be a good indication that he is not growing, but now he is dominating under the rim with this frame. As he continues to add strength to his body he will only become a better player. I would like to see more work on foot speed and agility, as well as the ability to go up for boards multiple times.
Jasper Hedin Jasper Hedin 6'5" | SF Winona | 2022 State MN 2022 6’6 MN Lightning Ellerbush Winona High School
Jasper is an intelligent big with good post moves. He is great at drawing contact around the rim, has intelligent up and under moves and head fakes that get his defender jumping into him. He likes to run the floor to get easy looks at the rim. I think that as he develops more strength down low he needs to work on improving his positioning on the defensive and offensive glass to get himself easier boards.
Nathan Johnson Nathan Johnson 6'6" | C St. Thomas Academy | 2022 State MN 2022 6’6 MN Select 16U Davis- St. Thomas Academy
Nathan is an ideal stretch five with good heads up ablility to find weak spots in the defense and attack them. He has a midrange pull up that he gets to when his three-pointer is not falling. He has a good handle for his size which allows him to attack other slower bigs off the bounce and get by them to the rim or stop on a dime and rise up. He has all the tools to be an effective two way player at the next level.
Zach Person 2022 6’7 Chapman Basketball Academy 16U Cedarburg
Zach is a large paint presence with good strength that he uses to bully defenders around down low. His long arms and reach allow him to dominate down low, with an extremely large catch radius and soft hands, Zach is an intelligent and powerful finisher around the bucket. He uses his strength to fight through contact and convert and ones. I would like to seem more work on his face up game and improve his ball control.
