We are looking ahead of players to watch in each classification starting in 6A that looks to be similar to last season with a few teams that will likely remain near the top all year, but there are some players that can really score. With 5 of the top 6 scorers in last years classification moving on due to graduation we look at the players that will fill their roles when it comes to scoring.
The top 5 scorers that are coming back in 6A are:
Ethan Potter Ethan Potter 6'8" | SF Layton | 2021 State #194 Nation UT (Layton)
Trace Ross Trace Ross 6'3" | PG Corner Canyon | 2021 State UT (Corner Canyon)
Quentin Meza Quentin Meza 6'0" | PG Cyprus | 2023 State UT (Cyprus)
Duncan Reid Duncan Reid 6'4" | SG Skyridge | 2021 State UT (Skyridge)
Hunter Phillips Hunter Phillips 6'9" | C Westlake | 2021 State UT (Westlake)
The 2020-2021 Season is a new season and we might have some new players on the block that will make there way to the top of the scoring charts.
6’8 SF Jaxon Kohler (American Fork)
With American Fork having a loaded roster in every grade they just got better with the return of Jaxon as he spent last year in Las Vegas. Jaxon has been tabbed as one of the best prospects in the country and he is well known for his footwork. The 3/4 star prospect is also a Top 100 Class of 2022 player in the country. He can score all over the floor and there aren’t many players in the state that will be able to stop him. Don’t be surprised by his numbers, he’s the real deal. He currently holds 5 Division 1 offers.
6’7 SF Ethan Potter Ethan Potter 6'8" | SF Layton | 2021 State #194 Nation UT (Layton)
Be live it or not Ethan has added more to his bad as last season he put up 22 PPG and look for him to add to that as last season 3 games kept him from elevating that by a large margin. Ethan is shooting the ball well from deep and he will be a handful for defensive schemes. Look for Ethan who is a great free-throw shooter to get at minimum 5 free-throws a game and don’t be surprised if he get’s 7-10 attempts from the free-throw line a game. Ethan has been racking up some solid Division 1 offers as he hold 4 himself and has two recent ones from Nebraska and Utah Valley.
5’11 PG Quentin Meza Quentin Meza 6'0" | PG Cyprus | 2023 State UT (Cyprus)
A player that has the ultimate green light can really play. He is a player that will score in bunches and he is another player that won’t miss many shots from the free-throw line. Quentin’s ability to get his shots off with his quick release make him dangerous as he can rack up points really quickly because he shoots so well. The Class of 2022 PG that looks to score will have a target on his back but we have seen him play this summer and it hasn’t seemed to stop him as he can score in different ways.
6’4 SG Duncan Reid Duncan Reid 6'4" | SG Skyridge | 2021 State UT (Skyridge)
One of the best shooters in the state that can get going and nail 5+ three’s a game and really change the game as he can spread the floor out. He also works hard to get open running off of screens and pin-downs. Although Duncan might be labeled as a shooter he didn’t make more than 4 three-pointers last season. We are calling it now. He will hit more than that next season. Duncan also holds Division 1 offers and he should rack up a few more before it’s all said and done.
6’9 Hunter Phillips Hunter Phillips 6'9" | C Westlake | 2021 State UT (Westlake)
Hunter is a player that accumulates most of his points around the basket and this summer he continues to do the same. He is a player that has a raw game still and he can really score the ball inside. Underrated but he has really shown a lot of improvement.
Notables:
Trace Ross Trace Ross 6'3" | PG Corner Canyon | 2021 State UT (Corner Canyon)
Isaac Vaha Isaac Vaha 6'6" | PF Pleasant Grove | 2021 State UT (Pleasant Grove)
