Continue ReadingIn an effort to provide new and unique ways to cover prospects, we thought it would be important to give some coverage to those that might not always get it. To do that, we will be digging deep into each conference in the state.
We will be breaking down each conference starting with the Class of 2021 first to show college coaches who they need to be placing a value on heading into the year.
We will continue to go through each conference to try and hit as many players as possible with the hopes of helping these seniors-to-be catch the attention of prospective college coaches.
Leyton Nelson Leyton Nelson 6'4" | PF Tri-Center | 2021 State IA – Tri-Center
The top returning scorer in the Western Iowa Conference hails from Tri-Center and is Leyton Nelson Leyton Nelson 6'4" | PF Tri-Center | 2021 State IA .
Nelson led his team to an 18-4 record and spot in the substate semifinals, finishing third overall in the league. He posted just under 18 points and seven rebounds a night.
Along with his 391 points and 156 rebounds, Nelson also recorded 63 steals and 51 assists, shooting almost 65 percent from the field and 78 percent at the free throw line.
Tre Melby Tre Melby 6'9" | C Logan-Magnolia | 2021 State IA – Logan-Magnolia
Logan-Magnolia inched close to the .500 mark this past year, and with returning scorer and rebounder Tre Melby Tre Melby 6'9" | C Logan-Magnolia | 2021 State IA back, they might get there this winter.
Melby posted 13.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game last year, shooting over 52 percent from the field.
In addition to his team-leading 286 points and 206 boards, he also recorded 41 blocks, 21 assists and 20 steals.
Brogan Allensworth – Riverside
After leading Riverside in scoring and rebounding as a junior, Brogan Allensworth is primed for a big senior year.
Allensworth posted 10 points and seven boards a game last season, shooting just under 40 percent from the field. He also had 42 steals, 32 blocks and 32 assists.
His numbers should go up from these with improvements in shooting and more experience around him.
Blake Hall – Underwood
Blake Hall led Underwood in rebounds and assists as a junior, and with leading scorer Nick Ravlin departing, he could add another honor next year.
Hall scored 147 points with 182 rebounds, 96 assists and 40 steals, shooting just under 37 percent from the field with 17 made three-pointers.
Ethan Alfers – Tri-Center
As they look to make the climb up the league standings, Tri-Center will build around another returning standout in Ethan Alfers.
Alfers scored 260 points with 85 rebounds, 62 steals and 25 assists, shooting almost 50 percent from the field and 64 percent at the line. He made 28 three-pointers to lead the team.
