He’s a top 3-4 2021 prospect and a recently high major offered player. This is Andrew Morgan Andrew Morgan 6'9" | C Waseca | 2021 State #178 Nation MN .
Morgan has the look of a Big Ten power forward in frame and agility which is likely why Iowa offered him this week, He rebounds in big numbers and gets off the ground quickly to finish. Morgan has skills to add but progress has been made there.
Morgan reminds me of a much taller but not as quite explosive of Weston Baker Magrath (if Weston was an 8 on the scale Andrew is a 7). From the same area of the state and Morgan collects rebounds like they were available at Costco (in bulk). Morgan is starting to improve the face-up game but most of his production is near the rim.
The current offer list is North Dakota State, Appalachian State, New Hampshire, South Dakota State, and now Iowa. Morgan is a long time player for the Minnesota Heat so long time Heat director talked to NHR about Morgan:
“We’ve had a bit of communication with Coach (Billy) Taylor,” Willie said. “The first time Fran McCaffery spoke to him was yesterday when they offered. There’s been a decent amount of communication. They were pretty receptive speaking wise. I was surprised in a good way that the offer came.
“I know that what he does and how he plays, just being a mobile, back to the basket big. I think Iowa is a good fit in that regard. He reminds me a decent amount of Adam Woodbury. That’s the first player I thought of when I looked at. I think it’s a really good fit in terms of what he can bring to the table and the proximity of where he lives.
“Iowa City makes a ton of sense for him. I think it’s a spot as a city and a program that I think checks a lot of boxes and that he’s excited to have it.”
Vang went on to explain Andrew as a prospect and as a player.
“He can switch out on some guards at the AAU level and lock up,” Vang said. “He can move so well. If you watch his film, and watch how he can get in a stance and move around, there’s no question that he’s a high-major player. He’s really improved his shot. I’m not saying that he’s a stretch five or anything like that, but he can shoot it. He’s really developed that well.”
Morgan won’t make a college decision for some time.
“He’s waiting to see how things go. I don’t envision him making a decision that soon. I think a lot of kids will wait to see if live events happen. I think from a timeline standpoint, he would plan to wait a little bit. I know it means a lot that Iowa was the first high-major to offer.”
