With around 100 participating players with various skill levels. Players in this league are split into different teams. This showcase type of a league lets us evaluate talent.
The teams have been hand selected with only a few players playing with their high school teammates. It was easy to see that there was a learning curve for players involved as they learned to play with their new teammates. There was also some competitive adrenaline being released while players got their game legs back.
Here are a few players that stood out after Day 1.
6’7 Jaxon Kohler (Coronado High School, NV)
The Class of 2022 super skilled player who is a Utah native will likely leave Nevada and enroll at American Fork High School to start his junior year after a year at Wasatch Academy as a freshman. If you want to see footwork look no further. Jaxon has elite footwork. He can score from anywhere on the floor. He can handle the ball and lead the break or he can muscle his way in the paint and get those tough buckets. He is an addition that could help improve any roster because of his scoring ability. He is a Division 1 talent.
6’4 Cole Jesse (Wasatch Academy)
Tough guard that can score the basketball. Defends his position well. Can score in a hurry and he is not a high volume shooter that needs a lot of attempts. He scores with ease and knows how to get to his spots.
6’9 Carter Welling Carter Welling 6'10" | PF Corner Canyon | 2021 State UT (Corner Canyon)
Carter has improved his game. His length tends to place him on the blocks but he can play on the outside and we would venture to say that he is more comfortable out there as well. He crashes the boards on both end sof the floor and he is comfortable casting that 3-ball. Look for him to get some nice put-back dunks and some nice trail 3’s. Impressed with his improvement and progression.
6’8 Jaden Brownell Jaden Brownell 6'8" | SF Alta | 2021 State UT (Alta)
Jaden just looks different out on the floor against some of the competition. The game just moves slower for him as he makes elite passes and can score but doesn’t press. He is a Division 1 LM player as a stretch 4 maybe 3. Could be a steal for a National JUCO that can get him to where he wants to be. He runs the floor and is a threat at all times.
