The 7 names on this list are young, but their upside is as intriguing as many of the older competitors they’ve faced in this open division tournament.
Last week Jackson Prince the scorer was on display. This weekend was more of the same, but the one handed bullet passes he threw stole the show. Add scoring and facilitating out of the pick and roll to his growing offensive resume.
Elijah Grimes Shows Flashes
Grimes brings 6-5 size to the wing along with a beautiful jump shot with range. Grimes doubles as a weak side rim protector that covers a lot of ground for his AAU team.
Cameron Paul Deserves A Challenge
At 6-5 Paul will be a cheat code at the middle school level next year. Yes, middle school! The 2025 wing scores over the top with ease, dropping off several of his runners over outstretched hands and the rim. There’s nice pop to his athleticism, and it’s only the beginning for a player showing this much touch.
Maurion Young Goes On A Run
A five point run sparked my interest in 2023 ball handler. He’s quick and has no problem opening scoring paths for himself. The pull up three and finishing through contact are good signs to see heading into his sophomore year.
Korey Muse Is A Shooter
Muse shoots a good ball. We’re talking six made threes in two games on high efficiency. There’s a lot of confidence in the 6 foot tall incoming freshman’s catch and shoot routine.
The way the young man played today, it’s easy to assume he’ll be on the list for day 3 performers too. He cripples defenses his victim on day 2 was a 2-3 zone that he probed at will. He through bullet passes en route to a 7 assist game.
Jamel Johnson Has Clamps
Johnson did the one thing that seems impossible at times: contain Pankey. He forced ball handlers to change direction, then used his quickness to cut them off once again. He racked up a trio of steals during play. With such a loaded team it was hard to see his scoring output but that three ball fell with consistency.
