With no spring and summer basketball going on we wanted to do a deep dive into the prospects across the state by reviewing their season long highlight tapes and giving our evaluation of their strengths as a prospect along with projected college level. Here is our Film Room: 2022 Southern Illinois Prospects!

[player_tooltip player_id="863605" first="Justin" last="King"] (Mascoutah)

King is one of the best guards in southern Illinois. The 6’3” point guard has long arms and a slender build. Smooth acceleration with the ball in his hands. Excels in transition both as a finisher and passer. Gets to the rim where he is a quality layup maker and passes it well dumping off to his teammates. Slick handles slithering through the defense getting to the rim and hitting runners. Capable shooter that continues to improve. Moves feet defensively and flashes on that end. Low-major plus/mid-major prospect at this stage.

[player_tooltip player_id="863639" first="Brady" last="Moore"] (Breese Central)

Moore is a 6’3” tough and hard-nosed shooting guard with a strong body. His toughness and competiveness makes up for some of his lack of athleticism at the high school level. Gritty rebounder for a guard. Crafty in the lane as a finisher. Solid jump shooter that hits spot up threes and can shot fake coming in for a one dribble pull up. Projects early in the process as a high end small college prospect that in-state programs at that level should prioritize early.

[player_tooltip player_id="996078" first="Jared" last="Landeros"] (Chester)

Listed at 6’3” this point guard from southern Illinois is a lefty with a funky release on his shot with a ton of arc on it from three. Has a passing flair hitting guys on the move and threading the needle in the half court. Average athlete. Likes to utilize a jump stop in the paint on his drives for layups. Small college prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id="863586" first="Caleb" last="Burton"] (O’Fallon)

Burton is a 6’0” point guard with long arms and an athletic frame. Weaves in and out of traffic with the ball in transition. Smooth handles getting to the rim where he finishes with athletic layups. Potential on his jump shot. D1 prospect that low-major and mid-majors should be monitoring.

[player_tooltip player_id="863611" first="Chase" last="Travis"] (Olney)

Travis is one of the top wings in southern Illinois in the 2022 class. Thin build but he has broad shoulders so he could add strength moving forward. In this video he showcased better creativity as an all-around scorer than we have seen. Put it on the deck quite a bit and used quickness in the paint for scores. Plus shooter with a clean looking shot. Travis is a quality D2 prospect at this stage.
