Film Room: 2021 Metro East Prospects

With no spring and summer basketball going on we wanted to do a deep dive into the prospects across the state by reviewing their season long highlight tapes and giving our evaluation of their strengths as a prospect along with projected college level. Here is our Film Room: 2021 Metro East Prospects!

Braden Bryant (Mascoutah)

Bryant is an undersized shooting guard that has a strong frame which allows him to take a bump on the interior. The lefty has a crafty all-around game. Short, concise, and shot put release on his three point shot. Doesn’t get a ton of lift off the floor. Was very effective on straight line drives finishing with acrobatic under the rim layups. Sound passer that makes good decisions with the ball in the lane. High level small college player.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKREAcvs7FA&feature=youtu.be

[player_tooltip player_id="920964" first="Nathan" last="Hall"] (Collinsville)

Hall is a face up 6’7” power forward that does his best spotting up for threes. With the seniors Collinsville had last year he flew a bit under the radar, but he is a D2+ prospect in his own right. Free and easy release on his three point shot with excellent shot prep. He has a nice feel for finding the vacant spot in the defense. Good athlete that plays above the rim in transition running the floor hard.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12138414/5e2de9f02ab0b605008b7d3e

[player_tooltip player_id="920960" first="Ethyn" last="Brown"] (Belleville East)

Brown is a name that has been around for a while. The metro east lead guard is a solid passer that makes good decision with the ball in the lane if the defense collapses on him. Also does a nice job of throwing long outlets in transition. Solid one dribble pull up and is capable of hitting three point shots when given space. Good finisher in traffic and crashes the glass well for a point guard. D2 prospect with the chance to elevate.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/13888422/5e6bb08fdfd9da1a9cb37dd0

[player_tooltip player_id="920952" first="Tommie" last="Williams"] (Belleville West)

Williams is a name that has been around for a while. This year he took on a much bigger role for the Maroons. Offensively his mid-range game is his strength. Crisp pull up from 15 feet and when he gets in a little closer uses a nice runner. Solid slasher that can finish at the cup with burst off dribble. Like what he brings defensively as he is engaged on that end. Quick hands and gets in passing lanes. Can be a scrappy post defender as well. Low-major prospect.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12096912/5e9a59140c5e06107cf721a4

[player_tooltip player_id="921033" first="David" last="Granger"] (Collinsville)

We came away very intrigued with Granger during his junior season despite him being just a role player. The athleticism jumps off the floor. He plays above the rim on both ends. Explosive finisher on lobs and dump off passes. Can put it on the deck on occasion. Shot blocker that has good anticipation and crashes the glass with force. High level small college player with chance to elevate as senior with more opportunities.

https://twitter.com/Dagj_25/status/1250203813891452929?s=20

[player_tooltip player_id="765169" first="Shaun" last="Riley"] (O’Fallon)

Riley is one of the top post prospects in the metro east in 2021. Super bouncy left handed power forward plays with high energy and plus athleticism. Works well from the mid-post area. Regularly hits 10-12 foot jump shots. Makes quick moves off the bounce handling it going in from the high post area. Runs the floor very well rim running. Defensively has capabilities as a weak side shot blocker. Low-major target heading into the season.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12108117/5e9614dad45ff10c8cd38388

Bryson Ivy (Belleville East)

Ivy is an undersized wing at 6’0” tall, but he brings the athleticism. Plus athlete that has toughness and produces. Slashing guard that gets to the rim really well attacking on the baseline. Plays bigger than his height with his strength. Showed flashes as a shooter. D3 prospect.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12129623/5e607c5ce9858709e418178f

[player_tooltip player_id="921016" first="Brennan" last="Weller"] (Edwardsville)

Weller stands at 6’5” as a shooting guard. His biggest asset as a prospect is his ability to knock down shots with a sweet left handed spot up three. Good shot mechanics with consistent release. Better athlete than we remembered and has a crisp handle with a little shake. Creative finisher at the rim that plays with some flair. High level small college prospect.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12156519/5e7d6bbbd45e150e7c611d3d
