With no spring and summer basketball going on we wanted to do a deep dive into the prospects across the state by reviewing their season long highlight tapes and giving our evaluation of their strengths as a prospect along with projected college level. Here is our Film Room: 2021 Central Illinois Prospects Pt 2!

DeMarco Clayton (Bloomington)

Clayton is an athletic shooting guard that has smooth acceleration with the ball in his hands. Finishes with euro steps in the paint and tends to take quality angles when attacking off the bounce. Solid spot up three point shooter that is better in the catch and shoot than creating his own jumper from deep. D2 prospect at this stage.

[player_tooltip player_id="652746" first="Luke" last="Braman"] (Roanoke Benson)

At 6’9” 205 pounds Braman is one of the more intriguing low post prospects in the 2021 class. He isn’t a freak athlete, but shows quality mobility and feel around the hoop. Finishes with either hand on hook shots. Maneuvers his body around the basket for scores. Quick moves once the ball touches his hands. Like how he keeps the ball high and away from guards trying to seal it. Runs the floor well. Passes out of doubles in the post. Solid area rebounder. High level D2 prospect with the chance to elevate into low-major territory.

Malykai Trice (United Township)

This United Township 6’5” combo forward did most of his damage on the interior and slashing. Bouncy forward that uses his quickness around the hoop for scores. Also gets on the offensive glass with his bounce for second chance points. Didn’t see much of a shot in the video. He is a small college player.

[player_tooltip player_id="914058" first="Corey" last="Walker"] (Normal West)

Walker had quite an impressive tape. We liked his potential a year ago and the 6’6” 236 pound post is starting to put it together. Broad shouldered and strong four man that is a good athlete. Can handle it out of the mid-post liking to take his man off the bounce where he was effective. Powerful post moves loving the spin move. Quick and assertive moves with the ball. Defensively he opened the video up with several LeBron chase down blocks. Also a quality football prospect, but worth D2s tracking heading into season.

[player_tooltip player_id="921013" first="Connor" last="Barnett"] (Fulton)

Big fan of this 6’3” combo guard. He first jumped on our radar last spring with the Iowa Mavs. This tape was fun to watch. Positional size and can flat out shoot the rock with a quick release and deep range on his jump shot. Moves well without the ball. Also displays creativity as a passer doing it with flair. Uses size inside to score as well. D2 programs should monitor and is a no brainer at small college level.

[player_tooltip player_id="821764" first="Devon" last="Vanderheydt"] (Washington)

This 6’7” face up four man is a really good spot up shooter. Excellent at stretching the floor hitting spot up threes at a very high rate. Has some bounce around the hoop finishing. Can also use a hook shot in the paint. Flashes to the middle for a short jumper. In transition he is a good passer breaking the press. Strong candidate at the D2 level.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/10435122/5e75328323473e142c62b4e2

[player_tooltip player_id="920962" first="Jordan" last="Rice"] (Rock Island)

Rice stands at only 5’9” and has a thin build. This kid just has that “it” factor you can’t teach. He is a crisp pull up jump shooter from three. Consistently creates his own shot from distance making super deep threes. Shakes his defender and then rises for the shot. Shifty handles allow him to win off the dribble and he has a burst through traffic to the hoop where he finishes with athleticism. Can really pass off live dribbles including throwing one handed dimes on a regular basis. Solid D2 candidate!
