Continue ReadingThis past weekend Dallas Showtyme hosted their fourteenth year of the Dallas Showtyme Classic. This year obviously had a twist seeing as of all of the COVID-19 restrictions, but even with them, the tournament seemed to run very smoothly. This was just the beginning of 2020 summer basketball for most of these outstanding prospects.
Wade Taylor Wade Taylor 6'0" | PG Lancaster | 2021 State #103 Nation TX – Southern Assault U17
This player is a force to be reckoned with as he is an elite shooter as well as a great ball handler. Throughout the weekend, he played exceptionally well in every game, but the game that stood out to me was his game against Texas Impact where he was able to drop 18 points and a few dimes grabbing his team the 66-58 victory. Wade currently has offers from Oklahoma State, TCU, Baylor, and Texas A&M to just name a few. The guard from Lancaster, Texas will look to keep on dropping buckets this summer with his talented Southern Assault team.
Harrison Ingram Harrison Ingram 6'7" | SF St. Mark's | 2021 State #15 Nation TX – Southern Assault U17
Another player on this insane Southern Assault team is the current number one ranked player in the state of Texas. Harrison is a player that makes you feel like you’re already watching NBA talent even though in reality you’re watching a rising senior in high school. Harrison only played a couple of games this weekend, but the ones he did play in he was able to drop serious buckets while also bullying everyone on the court with his size. The agility on a kid like this for his large stature is unmatched. It also becomes very apparent when you see him play in person why he is ranked so highly on a national scale. Harrison has been offered to every school you could think of including UNC, Memphis, Baylor, Texas Tech, and where most people think he is going, Stanford. The elite private school prospect has superstar potential, and I feel like he is one to watch as he grows into the college scene.
Rhino Hernandez – F.O.E. Elite U17
A player that I heard great things about coming into the tournament only blew my mind more when I was able to see him play in person. Talk about a guard that is quick on the floor, but has an outstanding shot. Those two qualities already make him a stellar athlete, but I believe Rhino’s most unique quality is the ability to set up his teammates to score. I’ve never seen a guard that could fit so perfectly into any team that he could play for. I think the Frisco guard not only looks like Steve Nash but with hard work, he has the potential to replicate his game too. He is a prospect I found very entertaining to watch, and I think he has great things coming his way for the rest of this summer.
Zhuric Phelps Zhuric Phelps 6'3" | PG Duncanville | 2021 State TX – Texas Impact 4:13 U17
If you thought that you had found the best finisher in the Dallas Showtyme Classic tourney, and it was not Zhuric, then I believe you may be wrong. This guy was the master of getting to the hoop at any given time, and he showed that he could be an elite finisher at the next level of play. This weekend in a tough matchup against Southern Assault, Zhuric lead his team in points with 12 showing that he was ready to play. Honestly, this is a player I want to follow all summer because I feel that his dunks are ferocious. I sat on the baseline feeling a variety of emotions every time this guy slammed it home. Overall, Zhuric is a prospect that has had a few small D1 offers from UT Arlington and others, but as of recently, DePaul and Tulsa have offered him too. Texas Impact is already a team you should watch, but I promise you that you will be very entertained every time number three steps on the court.
Noah McDavid Noah McDavid 6'5" | SG Lake Highlands | 2021 State TX – Triumph Gold U17
The 6’5 guard from Lake Highlands was one I had no previous knowledge on before the tournament, but after just a couple of games watching this guy play, I was astounded. In a game against Rhino and his F.O.E. Elite team, Noah was able to drop an entire 30 points. I honestly don’t think I saw any other prospect the entire tournament drop those kinds of numbers. The games were literally fifteen minutes halves, yet he was still able to be an elite scorer for Triumph. This is a player that deserves so much more recognition for how outstanding he is on the court. The only offer I could find for this guy was Bucknell, but I promise you that his abilities will bring in many more offers along the way this year if not this summer.
