There was a lot of incredible talent all weekend and was a great showcase of the elite talent the state of Texas has to offer. Be on the lookout for the rest of my in-depth analysis from this tournament!
Jefferson Morris- 6’6 George Bush High School, Texas Takeover Thomson 17U
Jefferson is a large forward who is a huge presence on the defensive end. His frame seems to swallow up the paint and forced his opponents to change their shots at the rim. He is a strong post defender and was really dominant down low all weekend. He was a creative and heads up passer in the high post and found his teammates cutting to the rim as he drew out the centers. He has the foot speed and agility to run the full court and had some very agile finishes at the rim.
Petia Dogale- 6’5 Austin High School, THP Elite 17U White
Petia is a strong force down low with an ability to knock down deep shots. He knocked down a lot of open looks in the corners from behind the line and in the midrange. He is a great and ferocious rebounder and seems to outleap everyone down low. He even has a respectable handle for his size which he used to get off tough jumpers and get to the rim with ease. On defense, he protects the rim well and has the ability to slide his feet and stay in front of guards and wings.
Kelechi Eke- 6’6 George Ranch High School, Texas Takeover Major 17U
Kelechi is an athletic forward who is strong with the ball down low, with a guard like ability to handle the basketball and create for his teammates. He has great ball control and hit a multitude of shots off the dribble. He has a reliable jump shot and a smooth release that he can get off from anywhere on the court. On the defensive side of the ball he has active hands and feet that allow him to slide over to protect the rim with ease. He even had the awareness to draw a few changes this weekend. He plays great on-ball defense that allows him to defend positions one through five!
Isaac Herron- 6’9 Lamar High School, Houston Defenders 17 U
Isaac is an insane athlete for his size, he flies all around the court and skies for rebounds over anyone. His energy translates very well on the defensive side of the ball and is great at using his frame and hustle to change opponents’ shots and send them out of bounds. He is a very skilled and capable ball-handler and showed great ability to beat defenders off the dribble and explode to the rim for easy looks. He welcomes contact when he goes up at the rim and seems to shake it off with ease and finish even with defenders draped all over him.
Marcel Bryan- ProSkills Austin 17U
Marcel is a very impressive player, who has a heads-up nature to his game and has the ability to take over an entire offense scoring and distribution. He has great size and strength and showed the patience and ability to back down defenders and get to comfortable looks at the rim. He is an incredible defender and has the ability to switch onto any position one through four. He showed great coverage on the pick and roll and made those situations into an advantage for his team most of the time by actively swallowing the ball handler when asked to switch onto them.
