Savion Pressley (2022) | Wardlaw-Hartridge
This ranking has to begin with Pressley. The sophomore was one of the top thieves in the state with 161 steals for an average of 6.7 per game. He was also a dominant scorer with 22.1 points per game. Pressley has taken Wardlaw into prominence. They won 18 games this season and finished second in the gold division. Pressley is a versatile guard that can play with or without the ball. He knocked down 55 three’s and got to the free throw line at a high rate. This is a prospect that can do it all on the floor and will be a steal for a Division I program.
Starrell Hearns Starrell Hearns 6'2" | SG Patrick School National | 2022 State NJ (2021) | Carteret
Hearns was Carteret’s leader in many categories this season. Aside from averaging 17.1 points and 9.8 rebound per game, Hearns was known for being a game wrecker on the defensive end. He averaged 2.2 steals and 2.1 blocks per game to lead Carteret. He was an intricate part of a 20 win Rambler team this season.
Mehkai Huey (2022) | Wardlaw-Hartridge
Pressley was not the only dominant guard on Wardlaw’s roster. His fellow Class of 2022 member averaged 5.12 steals per game and finished in the top five in the state. Huey is a true point guard. He finished second on the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game and was first by a ton in assists with 5.6 per contest. Huey is a talented guard with a high ceiling. He still has plenty of room to grow which is a scary thought for opposing teams.
Tristian Jeffries (2021) | St. Thomas Aquinas
With Quadra Adams moving onto bigger things at Wake Forest, Jeffries will be one of St. Thomas Aquinas’ key returners along with Jaquan Harris Jaquan Harris 6'4" | PG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2022 State #164 Nation NJ . Jeffries proved to be a threat on both ends. His role will only increase in 2020-2021. He played in only 15 games but he averaged over two steals per game and 12 points. He knocked down over two shots from behind the arc per contest. Expect numbers to skyrocket with a full season.
Drew Johnson (2021) | Dunellen
What a season it was for Dunellen. They finished 25-5 and at the top of the gold division. Johnson was the team’s second leading scorer with 477 points. He also led the team in blocks and was second in steals. Johnson will be one of Dunellen’s key returners as they prepare for life after Tyje Kelton Tyje Kelton 6'6" | PF Covenant College Prep | 2021 State NJ .
Josiah Brown Josiah Brown 5'8" | PG New Brunswick | 2022 State NJ (2022) | New Brunswick
Brown was part of a defense oriented New Brunswick team. They won 20 games this season and their defensive prowess was a big reason why. Brown fit right in with three steals per contest. He was not a big force on the offensive end but that will change as the team is losing some key members from this season.
Noah Taylor (2023) | Colonia
Taylor is a dark-horse player in the GMC next season. He entered a good program at Colonial and made an impact in his first season. Taylor showed his ability to get to the rim and finish with contact. He was among the team leaders in free throws made. Taylor also showed off his defensive skill. This is a valuable trait at such a young age and Taylor will only continue to improve.
