With the latest update of our 2022 class rankings having dropped recently, we take a look at which prospects bumped up their stock over the high school season!
Kendall Blue Kendall Blue 6'6" | SG East Ridge | 2022 State #242 Nation MN (6’5 2022 G, East Ridge)- Kendall Blue Kendall Blue 6'6" | SG East Ridge | 2022 State #242 Nation MN was already considered a top-10 prospect in 2022, but he solidified just how good he can be with a strong season at the varsity level. After dominating JV as a freshman, he become a varsity standout as a sophomore averaging 14.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while guarding multiple spots on the floor. Kendall has length for days allowing him to guard the 1-3 spots on the floor, and is capable of playing point guard or contributing on the wing. He has a consistent jumper, can get to the rack off the bounce, finishes equally as strong with either hand, and has explosive athleticism to finish above the rim in traffic. It’s only a matter of time before the D1 schools start taking a strong interest in the East Ridge prospect.
Tyirece Waits Tyirece Waits 6'1" | PG Osseo | 2022 State MN (6’1 2022 G, Osseo)- Osseo has a loaded group of sophomores, and Tyriece came into the season perhaps overshadowed by some of the bigger names in that group. He came out as one of the top performers however, averaging 7.7 ppg as Osseo’s fourth leading scorer. Tyriece is a quick guard who excels at attacking the basket and finishing in a variety of ways. He has a really nice spin move that he uses to get past the last line of defense before finishing. He used a strong sophomore year to bump himself up to #34 in the new 2022 rankings.
Teigan Martin Teigan Martin 6'7" | PF Mayer Lutheran | 2022 MN (6’7 2022 F, Mayer Lutheran)- Teigan used a dominating season to bump himself up to #22 in the class rankings, establishing himself as one of the top young power forwards in the state. At 6’7 he has the size to score from the block, but is versatile enough to catch on the wing and take his man off the dribble. He’s a patient player who makes sure to go up balanced on his shots which allows him to power through contact in the paint. Add in a consistent mid-range shot, and Teigan was able to average 18.4 ppg as he added himself to some D1 schools’ radars.
Jacob Butler Jacob Butler 6'3" | SF Minneapolis North | 2022 State MN (6’2 2022 SG, Minneapolis North)- Minneapolis North is another school with an absolutely loaded group of 2022 prospects, and Jacob Butler Jacob Butler 6'3" | SF Minneapolis North | 2022 State MN was able to make his presence felt by working his way into North’s starting lineup. At 6’2 he brings some length to the shooting guard spot, with a smooth left handed stroke catching and shooting from beyond the arc. He’s also fluid attacking the basket off the bounce, able to evade defenders with his change of pace. Butler is also a scrappy rebounder who fights on the glass despite giving up size against bigger teams. He averaged 8.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.9 apg, and shot 39% from 3P as a sophomore.
Alonzo Dodd Alonzo Dodd 6'2" | CG South St Paul | 2022 State MN (6’2 2022 G, South St. Paul)- Throwing his name into the elite list of 2022 prospects, Alonzo Dodd Alonzo Dodd 6'2" | CG South St Paul | 2022 State MN shot up to #13 in the class rankings. Arguably the most electric scoring guard in the class, Alonzo put up 25 a game leading South St. Paul to one of their best seasons in school history. Dodd is such a shifty ball handler, and uses that to get to the rim with ease where he excels at finishing and drawing fouls. He shot 248 free throws as a sophomore, knocking down 71.4% of them. Add in his ability to knock down three pointers off the bounce, and you get a dangerous scorer who holds an early offer from Morgan State.
Ayden McDonald Ayden McDonald 6'4" | PG Omaha Central | 2022 State MN (6’3 2022 PG, Hibbing)- Ayden McDonald Ayden McDonald 6'4" | PG Omaha Central | 2022 State MN put together one of the most impressive statistical seasons in the state this past winter, averaging 21.6 ppg, 10.3 apg, 6.3 rpg, and 3.7 spg for a tough Hibbing team. The sophomore point guard is one of the best passers in the state, able to thread the needle into gaps or drop no-look dimes to cutting teammates for scores. When creating for himself, Ayden shot over 41% from 3P and has an accurate turnaround jumper from mid-range that he puts high arc on to get up over longer defenders. He’s solidified his status as a top-20 level player in the 2022 class.
Jon Haakenson Jon Haakenson 6'2" | SG Maple Grove | 2022 State MN (6’1 2022 G, Maple Grove)- Haakenson put together a solid year for Maple Grove, and looks like a strong candidate to run the show at guard the next two seasons. A versatile guard who can play the 1 or 2, Haakenson averaged 7.7 points and 2.6 assists per game. An intelligent player who uses a hard job to explode past defenders and get to the rack, defenders know he’s going to attack right but he still gets right by them. Haakenson has also displayed the ability to pick out a pass while driving to the basket, and with a pair of talented young post prospects coming up from JV next season, he’ll have a lot of success setting them up to score.
