When looking at the 2021 draft class in Brooklyn, the only word to describe it is “loaded.” This class contains talent everywhere, from players fighting to make a JUCO roster to players already bathing in Division I scholarship offers. The talent is so steep that when talking about the best players, its hard to leave players out. We have narrowed the field to 56 juniors, and here is the ranking and analysis on players #48-41.
48. Torian Douglas | Franklin D. Roosevelt
Torian Douglas came into this season one year after being named the junior varsity team MVP for FDR with something to prove. Douglas proved it, by becoming one of the team leaders both on and off the court. The young guard was able to rush down the court and start fastbreaks with carefully planned out defense, facilitating the team and even showing off a jump shot. Next year, Douglas aims to capitalize and finally take control of the FDR team.
47. Shawn Morel | Cobble Hill School of American Studies
Shawn Morel was one of the stars in NYC’s Brooklyn B West division. The guard was able to consistently spot holes in defense and speed through them to draw contact against defenders. Morel also consistently found his teammates for open shots with precise passing as well as an above-average three-point shot which he can use to play off ball and spread the floor from the perimeter.
46. Joshua Senior | Brooklyn Tech
The quirky, energetic point guard out of Brooklyn Tech, Senior made a name for himself by doing the dirty work. Senior, despite his size, would not be afraid to drive inside all the way to the paint and put his body against larger forwards. On defense, Senior isn’t afraid to add his name to the ring and contribute in the paint while he also has the speed and agility to pester smaller guards.
45. Morris Pettiford | Teachers Preparatory High School
This season for Teachers Prep, Morris Pettiford has transformed into an elite stretch four. Pettiford has the height to hold his own against forwards backing him down while he can get up and contest rebounds on both ends of the floor. On offense, Pettiford can both distribute the ball as a “guard”, take the ball in the paint and back down forwards, and space the floor in the corner and the wing and shoot with a remarkable clip.
41. Ramsey Saleh | Thomas Jefferson Campus
Ramsey Saleh has been a marksman for Thomas Jefferson Campus this season. Saleh, who scored the majority of his points from beyond the arc, has a very pure form that reduces most movement, which both allows defenders to not reach his shot and for him to have the ability to shoot on command with a quick trigger. Saleh pairs his sharpshooting up with his speed, running all over the offensive end to the cold zones to shoot off the jump.
40. Jamel Outley | Franklin D. Roosevelt
Jamel Outley has shown he contains all the skills to be successful as a guard. Outley can both take control of the ball and run the offense, creating opportunities for himself and others with quick penetration, shifty handles, and precise passing, as well as play a secondary role on the offense, becoming a standstill shot creator or a catch and shoot player. On defense, he can keep up and pressure the faster guards as well as play valuable help defense against larger forwards.
39. Jerome Famous | Automotive High School
Jerome Famous fits the mold of the plurality of players on this list– big man. Famous has been a rock for Automotive High School this year, securing rebounds on both ends of the floor and providing a consistent flow of second-hand points. Famous can provide floor opening skills on offensive such as his strong screening, and even a rare jump shot where it looks like he has the skill and confidence to take once in a while.
38. Bryan Miss Rodriguez Minay | Bushwick Campus
Bryan Miss Rodriguez Minay has been a very reliable center for Bushwick this year. Rodriguez Minay has been confident at the rim all season, and only a junior, he has already deterred many from taking a crack at him in the paint to settling to an unreliable, forced jump shot. On offense, Rodriguez Minay has set screens and rolled from just about everywhere, resulting in either a wide-open lane for him in the paint or a wide-open shot for a teammate.
