The future is very bright on Long Island. The class of 2023 seems far off, but these players have already turned heads. Some have D1 bloodlines. Others have coaches that have coached D1 talent. When your scouting players this young, talent is not the only thing, that you use to project. These players have the work ethic, family strength, and mental toughness . They are all playing at winning H S programs. It is going to be a very exciting time as we watch this talent come of age.
MALACHI MOORE. 6”2 SO. COPIAGUE H S
Can shoot it, pass and handles it well. Tremendous court awareness, high basketball IQ and really good instincts. Great work ethic, on the court and in the classroom. As a freshman he was able to play 4 out of 5 positions on the court. Usually when you ask a coach about his star player. We talk hoops. The first thing coach told me was “ he is a great person ,committed to his family, classwork, and especially his sport. He is a coaches dream. “ Malachi is just touching the surface combining his great skill set with his desire to suceed in everything he does.
JO JO WRIGHT. 5””8 SO. UNIONDALE H S
2 years ago, Jo Jo was called up for the playoffs and played really well. As a freshman he just completed his second H S season. So it is safe to say the sky’s the limit for this special player. Can really shoot the three. Extremely difficult for a defender to keep this lefty in front. Scores multiple ways. Amazing skill set and high basketball IQ . Very good at the high pick and roll game. Coach says “I can sit down with him and talks hoops, it’s like talking to another coach, he sees things on the court that some other coaches don’t even see.” High praise from a coach who has had many D1 players. No surprise he is an honor student as well. Looks to project as a D1 player with good academics. This player will be highly sought after and we look forward to covering him. Could be the best of the lot .
DANTE GREEN 6”2 SO HALF HOLLOW HILLS EAST H S
Very good bloodlines, but he is his own player. One brother (Devante) plays at Indiana, his other brother Danny, is a multiple NBA champion. Athletically gifted. Very strong. Really good on the glass. Has a good handle. Can elevate and shoot the three. Coming into the season, he needed to get ready for the speed of the varsity game. As he got more comfortable that has improved. With the family tree, plus the high school programs success with turning out college players, Dante is another special player in this class. Should be the 4th Green to play at the next level.
FRANK WILSON 6”4. SO. HALF HOLLOW HILLS EAST H S
Even though he was a freshman this year, he was still the MVP for the team . Very athletic with a nice touch around the rim. Very consistent inside 15 feet . Good student of the game as well as in the classroom. Super rebounder on both ends. Runs the floor well and can finish at the rim with contact. Needs to add some strength, but he is still growing and has a great frame. Tremendous upside and is really good already. Will garnish a lot of attention.
Anthony Daley. 5”9 So. DEER PARK H S
Can really shoot the three. Witnessed by the fact he hit 84 of them in his freshman year. Doesn’t waste his chances with the three, hit them at a 49% clip. Really good at catch and shoot with unlimited range. Has a quick release as well. Will be an exciting player to watch the next couple of years for a program that has turned out really good players .
PRESTON EDMEAD 5”5 FR. DEER PARK H S (2024)
2024 player, who I just could not leave out of this . His brother (Malik) just finished up his senior year at Deer Park sharing the backcourt with his little brother . Malik is headed to Merrimack. His older brother ( Aaren)went to North Carolina A&T. So another player with very good bloodlines. Has always played against the older kids. He is a pure point guard. Tremendous court vision and awareness. Even as an 8th grader playing on the varsity, he seemed to always make the right decision. Preston just wasn’t on the team, he played regular minutes. Shot 42% from three and can get his own shot off. A very exciting player that will no doubt, follow in his brothers footsteps. But will do it, with his own talent.
This group as just finished their freshman season. They will be sophomores in the 2020-21 school year. Preston will be a freshman . Just wanted to clarify.
