When prospects really take the next step is when they can become floor generals with and without the ball. This is an array of players that can do all of the above. This cluster of five showcases players that can absolutely devastate opposing teams when they have the ball in their hands to players that get everyone involved. Either way this is just a small list of players that have talent across the state at the point guard position.
5’10 Coleman Ford Coleman Ford 5'10" | PG Timpview | 2021 State UT (Timpview)
Coleman plays on a talented team in Timpview and although he is at times the smallest player on the court he is often one of the players that makes the biggest plays. He is a dog on both ends of the court. He will pick anyone up full-court regardless of who they are and who they play for. Many teams think they can catch him on the post but his feisty defense does not let players get any easy buckets. Coleman gets his teammates involved but can also score in bunches with his high IQ and crafty style of play.
6’0 Talon Valdes Talon Valdes 6'0" | PG Juan Diego | 2021 State UT (Juan Diego)
While making a huge jump from his sophomore year to his latest campaign, Talon really turned the corner. He plays the passing lanes well and he has a much improved outside jumper. While Talon often times overwhelms defenders with his speed his continued learning and adding to his game will come in handy as he will garner a lot of attention when it comes to defensive schemes.
6’0 Cannon Devries Cannon Devries 6'0" | PG Weber | 2022 State UT (Weber)
Cannon is one of those players that is ideal for the pick n’ roll because he can really shoot the basketball. He is quick off the dribble and his shot goes up quickly as well. Cannon isn’t a one dimensional player as he really plays intense defense. Cannon has a good handle and a great mid-range to add to his ability to score. Cannon makes the right read on the offensive end which is something he can build on from his latest sophomore season.
6’1 Elijah Tolbert Elijah Tolbert 6'2" | PG Highland | 2022 State UT (Highland)
Although Elijah played on a team that didn’t have a lot of success Elijah can hoop. He is an underrated athlete. While he is still learning to play with the pieces around him he is one raw point guard that has potential to make a decent jump next year. He can score the basketball.
6’2 Richard IsaacsJr. (Wasatch Academy)
When it comes to point guards Lil Pop Pop is one of the best in the country. He is and will be a Division 1 PG. He is calm and collected with the ball if there is pressure. His ability to change speeds will creating space to create a shot or to simply create space for himself is elite. Richard has a unique ability to score and distribute. He has no issue guarding multiple sized guards as well. Look for his junior year to be the year that suitors start to knock the door down.
