Continue ReadingSection 1B has been the best league in NY state for the last 20 years. This league features Mount Vernon HS, New Rochelle HS, White Plains HS, Scarsdale HS, & Mamaroneck HS. No other league public or private has produced more state championships. Seven state championships have come from a Section 1B school. Nineteen of the last 20 sectional AA championships have come from a Section 1B school. Section 1B has produced several division 1 players.

Section 1 AA playoffs have been dominated by Section 1B schools. Currently, two Section 1B schools are in the semi-finals. Number 3 seed New Rochelle and number 4 seed Mount Vernon. History shows one of those two schools will be in the championship game. The final four will be played at the Westchester County Center on 3/6/20.
Number (1) Suffern Highschool
At 19-3 overall, and 8-0 league record the mounties earned the number 1 spot. In the quarter-finals, the mounties destroyed Spring Valley 60-38. This final four berth was led by Clevmer Lubin, Joel Emanuel, and Jaden Edozie. Clevmer Lubin ran the show with 25 points and 5 assists. Joel Emanuel contributed 13 points and 5 rebounds. Jaden Edozie added 10 points for the mounties. They will face defending Section 1 AA Champs Mount Vernon in the semi-finals.
Number (2) Greeley Highschool
Greeley earned the 2 spot with a 19-3 record also. The Quakers are 6-0 in Section 1D play. Greeley faced Ketcham in the quarterfinals. The final score was 75-37. This was the sixteenth straight victory for the Quakers. The stars of the show were Christopher Sauerborn, Chris Melis, and Nick Townsend. Chris Sauerborn led wit 24 points, showing his range with six 3 pointers. Chris Melis put up 16 points and 7 assists. Nick Townsend added 15 points and 11 rebounds to punch their ticket to the county center. They will face 3 seed New Rochelle in the Section 1 AA semi-finals.
Number (3) New Rochelle Highschool
A 17-5 record overall got the Huguenots the 3 spot. They defeated everyone in their league except Mount Vernon. New Rochelle beat North Rockland 66-38 in the quarterfinals. This final four berth was led by Jayson McGhee, Prakash Ketterhagan, and Christian Rogers. Jayson McGhee led with 17 points and 3 assists. Prakash Ketterhagen chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. Christian Rogers added 10 points and 9 rebounds. The victory stamped Head Coach Rashaun Young’s 100th career win. The Huguenots will face Greeley Highschool in the semi-finals.
Number (4) Mount Vernon Highschool
This was a down year for the Knights at 13-9 overall. However, they finished 5-1 in Section 1 B play. League play granted the Knights the 4 spot. The knights defeated White Plains 66-56 in the quarterfinals. The Knights got their revenge, after losing to the tigers in the regular season. Troy Hupstead, Irvin Patrick, and Orlando Dawkins showed up for the Knights. Troy Hupstead sent a message with 18 points and 23 rebounds. Irvin Patrick finished with 21 points. Orlando Dawkins added 14 points and 10 rebounds. The knights will face number 1 seed, Suffern, in the semi-finals. Until someone knocks the knights off, they are still Section 1 AA champions.
