Group 2 was one of the best sections in New Jersey this season as it contains two of the top six teams in the state. Camden and Manasquan have been dominant all season, while Ramsey, Hackettstown and Holmdel have enjoyed stellar seasons. While players like [player_tooltip player_id="766063" first="Lance" last="Ware"], [player_tooltip player_id="850335" first="Sean" last="Hansen"] and [player_tooltip player_id="850360" first="Alex" last="Galvan"] have been key parts to their teams’ success, high-profile underclassmen have stepped up in a big way. Only sophomores and freshmen were considered for this as juniors are technically called upperclassmen. Here are the top underclassmen from Group 2.

MVP: [player_tooltip player_id="850751" first="Dajuan" last="WagnerJr"]., 6’3 CG Camden 2023

His placement at MVP comes as no surprise as Wagner has been a driving force for the state’s top team. The freshman combo guard lead the Panthers in scoring this season as he scored in double figures in every game he played this season. Wagner can score at all three levels and plays well above his years as the pressure never seemed to get to him. His 23-point second half performance on the road against Paul VI proved that he is a clutch player and ready for anything that comes his way. Wagner has a bright future ahead of him and should do big things in his second varsity season.

First Team:

[player_tooltip player_id="901942" first="Ben" last="Roy"], 6’0 PG Manasquan 2022

The Shore Conference Player of the Year was a rock for one of the state’s most dominant teams. Roy played with a scorer’s mindset as he was tough to keep out of the lane. The sophomore guard ran Manasquan’s offense to perfection and had a great chemistry with seniors Galvan and Montclair State commit Kieren Flanagan. Roy is just scratching the surface of his potential and has the opportunity to make a big splash in his sophomore season.

[player_tooltip player_id="901971" first="Asim" last="Jones"], 5’10 PG Manchester Regional 2022

Jones may not be the biggest guard in the state, but he knows how to fill up the stat sheet. The 5’10 sophomore is a tough rebounder, underrated defender and solid on-ball defender. Jones has a quick first step and knows how to finish around the rim. He can knock down three-pointers in bunches and does what it takes to win. Manchester Regional was upset by Mountain Lakes in the North Jersey 1 Group 2 quarterfinals, but the Falcons will be looking for a better season in 2020-21.

Jashair Rosa, F Manchester Regional 2022

The second straight Manchester Regional player on the team, Rosa has been huge for the Falcons this season. The sophomore forward knows how to draw contact around the rim and can finish tough layups. Rosa has range that extends to the three-point line and is a tough rebounder down low. He struggled in Manchester Regional’s quarterfinal loss to Mountain Lakes, which could fuel Rosa for a strong junior campaign.

[player_tooltip player_id="901988" first="Andrew" last="Stack"], 6’2 SG Madison 2022

Madison was the second victim of North Star Academy’s Cinderella run to the North 2 Group 2 title game, but that does not diminish Stack’s accomplishments this season. The 6’2 sophomore was a marksman from behind the arc and only needed a couple inches of space to get his shot off. Stack moves well off the ball and is an underrated defender. The Dodgers had a solid 2019-20 season, but Stack could lead them to big things in his junior season.

Second Team

[player_tooltip player_id="931025" first="Geoff" last="Schroeder"], 6’0 CG Rumson Fair-Haven 2022

[player_tooltip player_id="931024" first="Tommy" last="Mooney"], 6’1 PG Haddonfield 2022

[player_tooltip player_id="850757" first="Cian" last="Medley"], 6’0 PG Camden 2023

[player_tooltip player_id="901948" first="Wyatt" last="Hasselbauer"], 6’7 PF Manchester Township 2022

Samir Jordan, 6’1 PG North Star Academy 2023

Honorable Mention:

[player_tooltip player_id="902751" first="Cornelius" last="Robinson"], 6’4 SF Camden 2023

Sebastian Robinson, 6’1 SG Camden 2023

Savon Myers, 6’4 SG Manchester Township 2022
