Throughout the week we’ll provide more coverage on the Shootout. In this article, we take a look at the top players off the bench, providing the energy, from the event.
Kobe Allen (Don Bosco, 2022)
A 5-7 sophomore guard, Allen is tiny but he’s effective. Lightning quick with the ball in his hands, he sometimes gets going too quickly and can struggle to finish at the rim as he puts himself at odd angles, but that should develop over time. His ability to break down a defense, get to the rim and find open teammates is highly valuable. He also competes on the glass despite being just 5-7. He had 4 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal in the Dons loss to Alburnett.
Colin Shults (Liberty, 2022)
A 6-6 sophomore forward, Shults has the build of a defensive end, with big, broad shoulders. He moves really well, establishes solid position on the block, and rebounds the ball at a high level. He finished with 5 points and 7 rebounds in Liberty’s blowout win over Carlisle.
Cole Osterhaus (Carlisle, 2021)
A 5-8 junior guard, Osterhaus came off the bench to lead the Wildcats in scoring with 8 points, including going 2-4 from behind the arc, showing off some good form and extended range on his jumper.
Jack Brietbach (Xavier, 2021)
Breitbach really impressed me at the Coe College Junior/Senior Prospect Camp in September, and he’s been an effective player off the bench for the Saints this season. A 5-10 lead guard, he handles the ball exceptionally well and is a fantastic passer who really sees the floor ahead of his teammates. He contributes across the board, as evidenced by his 7 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals in their win over Charles City.
Max Kaiser (Xavier, 2021)
An aggressive offensive player, Kaiser, a 6-2 wing, looked to attack the rim when he got in the game, and he was effective, finishing with 8 points, 3 rebounds and an assist. He’s got decent size, handles it well and finishes through contact at the bucket.
