Now, the 6-foot versatile guard from Tacoma Washington is one of the top players in the Northwest Athletic Conference. Harris-Williams has been an instrumental player for the Pirates during the past two seasons and everyone has taken notice.
A player who is likely to be an all-league player, the physical guard continues to grow on and off the court.”I feel like I’ve been playing pretty well. I’ve been really working on becoming an even better leader. That’s what I have been really focusing on more this year and making sure that I’m always making the right play”, stated Harris-Williams.
The guard has been on a tear during his sophomore campaign. Harris-Williams is currently twelve in the conference in scoring averaging 19.6 points per contest, to go along with 4.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists. With his sneaky first step, fancy finishes around the rim and soft-touch floaters, it tends to be a long day for the opposing team’s defenders. Let’s not forget to include his ability to drain the deep ball from beyond the arc. Harris-Williams can also scorch the net. Earlier this season, Davien set a new Peninsula College record for most 3-pointers made in a game with 8 and finished the game with 35 points during the team’s victory over BC Christian.
Recently the NWAC honored Davien with the Player of the Week award for week 11 of the season. During that time, Harris-Williams put up 29.5 points, dishing out 6 assists, grabbing 8 rebounds and playing great defensively, snatching 5 steals. Davien guided the Pirates to a four-game win streak during that time, all while shooting an astounding 64%.
“As a team, we’ve been playing better. We’ve had a big turnout since last year. This team is much more cohesive and we have a lot of chemistry”, said Harris-Williams. “I’ve learned a lot since my freshman year and grew to make the correct plays to help my team get the win”.
Harris-Williams is a grinder and a proven winner. He never settles and continues to develop in all aspects of his game. Davien gets it done both in the classroom and on the court. His ability to score at will and make consistent plays helps pave the way for the team to succeed.
With life still left in the season, Harris-Williams is hoping to capture the attention of 4-year coaches. “We are in the middle of the season but as long as I keep working, I feel like it’ll pay off. I’ve received some interest from Pacific University, Minot State, and the University of Puget Sound”.
Any coach looking for a guard who does the little things to help his team win games should take a look at Harris-Williams. As the Pirates head into the playoffs, Davien hopes to help the team reach higher success but also find an opportunity to play at a 4-year school. “I’m open to going anywhere truly and hoping the right coach sees me. I’m just hoping for an opportunity”.
