The 6-foot-2 guard is a knockdown shooter from deep, and can also beat his defender off the bounce. He’s making strides defensively and is continuing to develop as a playmaker and ballhandler.
Kutcher is averaging 20.0 points per game and shooting 40 percent from 3-point land and he is a big reason the Mustangs are 14-2 on the season.
“It’s been really good for us,” Kutcher said of his junior season. “We’ve played some really good teams in a really good conference. Our guys have really been stepping up so far. It’s up and down for me because I started out with bronchitis and I was playing through that. I came back, and then sprained my ankle. It’s been a journey so far but I’m getting back into it now.”
Kutcher has been known for his scoring, but he’s improved in multiple other areas.
“I’ve really focused on my athleticism and lifting a lot,” Kutcher said. “Defensive wise, I’m getting a lot better there. Always staying in the gym with the shot, but also looking to create for my teammates more.”
Western Illinois was the first to offer Kutcher in the fall of 2018. The Leathernecks keep up with Kutcher, and are making him a big priority.
“It’s been really good,” Kutcher said of his relationship with Western Illinois. “I really like their coaches. It’s a really great program. They always stay in touch with me and it’s just a good relationship.”
Drake and Northern Iowa keep in contact with Kutcher, and it’ll be interesting to see if that interest starts to pick up in the coming months with AAU.
First, Kutcher has a couple of goals for the high school season.
“For the team, I want to win the conference for sure,” Kutcher said. “We have to beat some really good teams to do that. I always want to make state, too.”
