Schlaak is Kennedy’s leading scorer at 18.5 points per game and also leads the team in rebounding. Schlaak is a skilled 6-oot-7 forward with an improving faceup game that has colleges intrigued.
“It’s been going really well,” Schlaak said of his junior season. “I’m getting back into the flow of things after summer, getting after it in practice, and it’s going good. I started off a little shaky, but I got things going and I’m playing more to my strengths. Scoring inside and hitting 3’s.”
Schlaak has been improving in a couple of areas.
“Definitely strength in the post, getting boards, and putting them in,” Schlaak said of where he’s seen improvement. “Footwork as well. Footwork is a big deal. Being able to catch and face is huge. I’m also knocking down my 3’s unlike last year.”
Adding that outside jumper to his game his huge. Opponents already have a hard time containing Schlaak in the post, and him now having the ability to step up and hit it from distance makes him even tougher to guard.
Winona State, South Dakota, North Dakota, Loyola-Chicago, and Belmont are the primary schools showing interest in Schlaak.
He visited Winona State this fall, and wants to get out to Loyola-Chicago and Belmont after the season.
Kennedy is currently 9-6 on the season, and Schlaak is hoping that the team’s momentum can continue into the last two months of the season.
“We need to keep playing together,” Schlaak said. “Everyone needs to get stepping up and scoring a lot. I need to continue to keep my presence being the leading scorer and rebounder. I need to step it up on defense as well.”
