While the Crusaders and Green Knights both performed at a high level as teams, there were several players across the semifinals that shined bright and battled to give their team a chance to advance.
Julian Brown, Sophomore, Bergen Catholic
Julian Brown has been one of the biggest surprises of the season, and as it nears its end, his dominating performances are becoming expected. On a team filled with star talent, Brown, only a Sophomore, has etched out a big piece of the teams’ core. That was evident during the semifinal matchup against a tough Ramsey team. Brown scored 21 points and grabbed four rebounds in what felt like just another day in the office for an exceptional young talent.
Brendan Mykalcio, Senior, Don Bosco
Following up on his strong performance in the quarterfinals against the Hackensack Comets, Brendan Mykalcio remained strong. In a losing effort, falling short against St. Joseph (Mont.), Mykalcio still rose to the occasion and helped keep his team within arms reach throughout the contest. Posting a strong double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, Mykalcio left his stamp in what will be his final Jamboree tournament appearance.
Nazir Williams, Senior. St. Joseph (Mont.)
In perhaps the best performance of the entire tournament, senior guard Nazir Williams masterfully put together an all-around game that helped surge the Green Knights past the Don Bosco Prep Ironmen. Effecting the game in all facets, Williams reminded the raucous crowd why he remains one of the best in the County, producing a stat line of 26 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and two steals. It was the kind of performance that will be talked about for weeks to come and Williams will get a chance to duplicate that production in the Finals.
