Wilson Prep gets its revenge
The Wilson Prep Tigers avenged an early-season loss to Northwest Halifax back on Jan. 7 with a big rivalry win on Friday night. The Tigers got an 87-63 victory over Northwest Halifax to boost their record to 7-3 in the Tar Roanoke Conference. The Tigers looked extra-focused in this one as they jumped out to an early 19-10 lead and never looked back. They led 36-24 at the half and the lead kept growing as they led by 11 points after three quarters. 2021 Nasiar Blackston had himself quite the game to boost the Tigers on both ends.
Nasiar Blackston is a force to be reckoned with
2021 Nasiar Blackston set the tone for the game from the start, forcing a steal and flushing home a dunk for their first points of the game. He finished the game with 26 points, 11 in the first half and 15 in the second half, showing off his ability to make things happen on both ends. He’s a 6-foot-4 versatile prospect with the ability to fly around on defense and force turnovers and block shots on one end and finish above the rim on the other end. He set the tone for his teammates with his energy and performance.
Devyn Bullock followed Blackston’s lead
One player who played well feeding off Blackston was 2021 forward Devyn Bullock. The 6-foot-5 forward did well running the floor, defending the paint and finishing around the rim to finish with a season-high 20 points with 17 of them coming in the second half. Bullock even had a nice poster dunk off an assist from Blackston to get the crowd off its feet in the third quarter. He’s a prospect in their frontcourt to keep an eye on especially with his size and length.
Eric Wynn is one to watch
Big man Eric Wynn played limited minutes for the Tigers, but he proved to be effective when he was on the floor with his ability to attack the rim and protect the paint. Wynn showed poise with his ability to run rim to rim and make an impact. He finished with 13 points off the bench (8 in the first half). As he returns to full strength, he’s another prospect to keep an eye on at Wilson Prep.
Danyus Daniels kept playing for NW Halifax
For Northwest Halifax, unsigned senior Danyus Daniels was one prospect who didn’t let the score effect his ability to attack the rim on offense. Daniels led the way for the Vikings with 20 points (14 in the second half), showing off his ability to operate off the dribble all game long. He’s long and athletic for his size at 6-foot-5 and did well to keep things as close as possible while missing Shamarjah Davis.
