LaFayette 84, Sacred Heart 49
Jordan Wallace, LaFayette: Jordan and LaFayette came out of the gate hot. They took a 17-5 first quarter lead. His length makes him hard to box out and also allows him to finish tough shots in the lane. He is quick on defense and can anticipate passing lanes. He had 25 points and 9 rebounds, including 11 points in the third to stretch the lead out.
Corey Boston, LaFayette: Corey is quick in the open court and seems to make the right pass at all times. He is athletic and can finish high at the rim, even adjusting his shot if he needs to. He also showed the ability to shoot the outside shot if given to him. He finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds. He is part of an unbelievable LaFayette team that’s now 31-0, avenged their last year loss to Sacred Heart, and now going to Birmingham.
Red Bay 44, Vincent 31
Braden Ray, Red Bay: Ray was extremely patient the entire night. His coach laid out a game plan and he and his teammates executed it perfectly. He took what the defense gave him. If the defense sagged, he shot over the top. If the defense, overcommitted, he back cut and got easy layups. That’s a hard skill to teach, but he naturally has it. He controlled the pace of the game knowing they couldn’t play up tempo with Vincent. They did what they did and did it well. 1He finished with 17 points.
Lane Shewbart, Red Bay: Lane has a tenacious side to him. He loves to compete and he loves to get physical. He had a very difficult matchup against Vincent’s James McGinnis. Instead of shying away from it, he embraced it. Every team needs a player who can do the hard work and not be afraid. Lane finished with 7 points, 9 rebounds, and a trip to Birmingham.
Jackson McGinnis, Vincent: Jackson, standing at 6’4″ is a huge threat for Vincent. He really protects the rim well, wit his 4 blocks in the first half. In a low-scoring game like this, this is a prime time for someone of his size to step up and dominate the game. If he can develop 1-2 strong and consistent post moves, he’ll be even harder to deal with.
