Below we highlight some of the top guards still available. Later this week we will also dive into the top unsigned wings and posts, stay tuned!
Kobe Sanders – Chaparral is off to a 9-6 start, with eight games remaining before tournament time. Sanders is having a great senior season leading the Wolverines, he is a four year varsity player who is off to his best season so far. He is currently averaging: 19.5 PPG, 4.3 APG, 2.5 RPG, shooting 32% from deep (44/136). He is a guard that can score from all three levels, and can catch fire from deep. He has a strong basketball IQ and plays under control. He is crafty around the rim and can finish through contact. He shoots well from the line, going 51/64 so far on the year for 80%, he does a good job of creating contact both around the hoop and with his jumper when defenders jump. Any school will be lucky to pick up Sanders!
Quinten Rock – Rock is another four year varsity player, who has done a nice job of being the leader for the Buffalos after Kenny Foster graduated last season. The Buffaloes are off to a 13-1 start. Rock has been on a scoring frenzy since winter break ended, he has scored 20 or more points in the last seven games, including back-to-back 30 point performances. He had 37 against Arapahoe and 32 against Eaglecrest helping the buffaloes secure two big league wins. He is currently averaging: 20.1 PPG, 5.1 APG, he is a crafty guard with great handles and is able to create for myself and teammates. He does a nice job pushing the pace and is a good decision maker in transition and half court. It will be interesting to see where Rock will end up.
Zion Ruckard – Ruckard has made a huge jump in his senior season, currently averaging: 17.4 PPG, 5.7 APG, 4.3 RPG. Ruckard is a smart guard who plays under control, he does most of his damage from inside the three-point arc and the charity strip but does have the ability to stretch the floor. He is a crafty ball handler and does a nice job of finishing around the rim. He’s got great vision and does a good job of getting his teammates in position to score. It will be fun to continue to watch Ruckard develop into the true point guard that he is, any school will be lucky to land him.
Ty Foster – Foster is another guard who has played significant varsity minutes since his freshmen year, he has double-figures in scoring all four years. During his senior season so far, Ty is averaging: 15.0 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 3.9 APG, 3.6 SPG, he is a down hill attacking guard that lives at the rim. He is crafty around the rim and has good strength to finish through defenders. Ty is also one of the top perimeter defenders in the state who gets after the ball handler all game long. The next step in his game will be to continue to grow his jump-shot. He plays with a sense of urgency and attacks the rim all game long with great speed and athletic ability.
Christopher Speller – The 5A defending champions are currently off to an undefeated 15-0 start so far with a very talented and deep roster. Christopher is currently averaging: 10.7 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 3.3 APG, 2.7 SPG for Ranegview. His brother signed to play at Metro State, I would not be surprised if another Division II school picks up Christopher. He has tremendous upside, he has good size listed at 6’5 and is able to handle the ball like a guard. He is skilled around the rim and has a nice stroke from mid-range. The next step in his game will be developing more range on his jumper. He is currently shooting 67% from two-point range and 83% from the charity strip. He impacts the game in every way and it shows when you watch him play, he is a strong defender and can defend a number of different positions if needed throughout the game.
