Three Up, Three Down (AAAA)

Three Up, Three Down stops by Class AAAA to see who is playing well, who has had a recent skid, and who the players leading the way are.

Three Up

Robbinsdale Cooper. The Hawks are not only 10-3 on the season but they are winning games by an average of 16 points a contest. Beating up the bottom teams in the league? Yes but the top teams in the league as well! Cooper has wins over ranked Chaska and ranked Waconia to their resume. Sophomore guard Davion Evans and junior Tyson Dallas are two players that have emerged this year competing at a high level against whomever Cooper has defeated. Evans led with 20 against Waconia and 17 against Chaska while Dallas had his breakout game scoring 23 versus Bursville.

Hastings. The Raiders are always well coached and they are hitting their stride right now with a five game winning streak improving their record to 8-5. Earlier in the year Hastings had a four game losing streak and it was a time they were giving up 70 or more points consistently. Since that streak only one opponent has hit for 70 or more. It's all about the balance for the Raiders with Devon Haraldson, Trey Swanson, Colby Zak, and Izzy Arnold forming an excellent senior core.

North St. Paul. When the Polars had lost seven of their first eight it looked bad but people weren't paying enough attention to who it was they were losing to. An overtime win over Maple Grove switched the momentum and was followed by victories over Tartan, Wayzata, Mahtomedi, South St Paul, and others. The Polars are currently on a 7 game winning streak that may not stop any time soon. Senior Shaheed Muhammad has lived up to the billing with a 20 point per game year plus fellow senior Brandon Hickman has had a breakout season.

Three Down

Farmington. The Tigers started the year at 6-2 but have lost four of six putting their record at 7-7. Two years ago Farmington started 7-2 but a 7 loss streak in 8 games ended them at .500. Three years ago they started 6-4 but finished the year on a 10 game losing streak. Feels like a slide could happen again although there are some winnable games coming up soon. Six-foot-3 junior Isaac Ask has moved from being a breakout player to a consistent leading scorer.

Eagan. The Cats had a nice win over BSM, a nice win over Hastings, they have been holding teams are 60 points a game commonly, and overall the fight was there. The Cats were noisy. Offense has been a struggle the last three games though with Eagan failing to break 50 each contest (losses to Apple Valley, Rosemount, Edina). With three top ten teams in the next four games plus Farmington also ahead, it could be an uphill climb. Six-foot-2 senior Kurt Ohlhues is a nice player that is scoring about 16 a game.

Wayzata. If the season ended today the Trojans would have the second worst record (2-12) in 6AAAA and they would play in the 4/5 game (saved by their QRF for the moment but they are barely ahead of Washburn and St Louis Park). How has this happened? Wayzata is giving up 77 points a game. Their only wins this year have been at the UST Shootout. At one point it was thought that Wayzata would be fine when Camden Heide and Eddie Beeninga returned from injury but they've been back for seven games and it's still been a struggle. Carter Bjerke has the highest scoring average at 14.7 a game.
