The event was filled with high scoring games as five different teams eclipsed 80 points. The high-scoring nature of the Shore Classic Showcase provided plenty of opportunities for players to put up big numbers. Here are the top scorers from the Shore Classic Showcase.
Trey Patterson, 6’7 SF Rutgers Prep 2021
It comes as no surprise to see Patterson among the top scorers of the Shore Classic Showcase. The 6’7 junior was unstoppable at times for head coach Matt Bloom as he scored from distance, in transition and in the halfcourt. Patterson finished up with a team-high 24 points and 11 rebounds, making it his fifth consecutive 20-10 game. He is one of the most exciting players to watch in New Jersey and proved it at the Shore Classic Showcase.
Najae Hallenbeck, 6’6 PF Toms River North 2020
Patterson would have been the event’s top scorer if not for Hallenbeck’s dominant performance down low. The 6’6 power forward bullied Rutgers Prep down low to finish with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Hallenbeck showcased a nice shooting stroke from the foul line and a soft touch around the basket. More performances like this will make the Mariners a tough team to beat in the Shore Conference.
Amari Campbell, 6’2 CG St. Joe’s Metuchen 2022
The Falcons came up short against CBA in the opening game, but Campbell was not the reason they lost. The 6’2 sophomore carried the Falcons’ offense through large stretches of the second half, including a pair of clutch three-pointers in the fourth quarter. Campbell finished the game with 23 of the team’s 50 points. His ability to take over a game is something St. Joe’s Metuchen is going to need in 2019-20.
Moses Pierre, 6’0 PG Irvington 2020
Pierre’s missed free throws keep him from the top spot as the senior guard was incredibly efficient against Wall. He went 7/11 from the floor as the Crimson Knights could not keep Pierre from getting to the basket. Pierre finished the game with 22 points, nine rebounds and four steals as his all-around game was enough to keep Irvington undefeated on the season.
Patrick Murray, 6’3 SF Red Bank Regional 2022
Murray is not usually called on to put up huge scoring numbers, but the Buccaneers needed all of his 22 points against Red Bank Catholic. The 6’3 sophomore was lethal from behind the arc as he knocked down four three-pointers. Murray drove the ball to the basket hard, which resulted in him getting to the line. His ability to make tough shots could be what Red Bank Regional needs in 2019-20.
Tahj Parland, 5’9 PG Mater Dei Prep 2020
Parland had one of the most interesting days at the Shore Classic Showcase as he had two buzzer beaters in the same game. His backcourt heave to beat the halftime buzzer was incredible, but he showed off great finesse with his layup to end the third quarter. Parland was a blur on the court at times as Don Bosco Prep could not keep him out of the lane. The senior guard ended the game with 21 points and was at times the best player on the floor.
Anthony Milligan, 6’3 SG Franklin 2021
Milligan struggled with his shooting early against Holmdel, but found his rhythm in the second half. The junior wing knocked down three shots from behind the arc, but it was his ability to get to the rim that put the most pressure on the Hornets’ defense. He was able to beat his man off the dribble and put himself in good positions to score. Milligan ended the game with 21 points, but could have scored up with more if not for early foul trouble.
Jonathan Spatola, 5’6 PG Marlboro 2022
Spatola did whatever he wanted against Old Bridge. The sophomore point guard had several nice finishes around the basket and was able to make shots through contact. Spatola used his speed to give himself easy layups in transition and knocked down all five of his free throws. He finished up with a game-high 20 points and is one of the more underrated scorers in the Shore Conference.
Kevin Bauman, 6’5 PF Red Bank Catholic 2020
Murray may have scored more points than Bauman, but the Notre Dame football commit was the most dominant player on the floor. Bauman bullied his way inside for easy layups and finished nicely through contact. His energy on the offensive end allowed for him to score a couple of key put-backs for the Caseys. Bauman’s 20-point, 10-rebound performance was huge for a team that needed someone to step up down low.
