Recruiting Report: Cam Tweedy (2020)
Cam Tweedy, a class of 2020 forward from Westlake, recently reopened his recruitment. Tweedy, who was previously committed to Loyola (MD), says he is still considering the Greyhounds but decided that he wanted to take his time and weigh out all options before making a final decision.
“I want it to feel like a home,” Tweedy told Prep Hoops about what he’s looking for in a school. “I just want to feel like I’m at home, just like at Westlake.”
Howard recently offered Tweedy, who says he’s also hearing from the likes of Canisius and La Salle among other division one programs. Through 7 games so far this season, he is averaging 21 points and 15 rebounds per game. This is quite impressive when you consider that Tweedy has only been taking basketball seriously since high school.
“When I was younger, I played baseball, which was my first love,” he stated. “I was really good at that. When I got to high school, my coach said I have a gift and I should really show your talent for playing basketball. When I realized that I could play, I started to work hard. I go to the gym every day, and keep working hard.”
Tweedy says his agility and stamina are the most improved parts of his game. He says that competing on the Cross Country team helped him develop those traits.
“People think I’m kind of slow, but I have a quick first step and I can get to the hole or shoot the jumper,” said Tweedy. “I need to keep working on my jumper. Shooting the three. Because I’m so used to shooting the mid-range. Just working on the three right now.”
Currently listed at 6-foot-6, 210 lbs with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, Tweedy has the physical profile and work rate to compete at the division one level. There are already a handful of D1 schools recruiting him now, but don’t be surprised to see his offer list to grow over the course of the season.
What are his goals?
“Individually, I plan on hopefully averaging a double-double. Team-wise, it’s to win the SMAC and get to states.”
What can he bring to a college program?
“I can bring a lot of intensity, a lot of effort, and leadership intangibles.”
