Players who perform well in showcases will normally see their stock rise as their teams are playing better competition. The Hoop Group Boardwalk Showcase was not an exception to the rule as some players had stand out performances. Here are the top stock risers from the 2020 Hoop Group Boardwalk Showcase
Bobby Pirie, 6’4 SF Middletown South 2020
Pirie may have been giving up some height to Ranney’s frontcourt, but that did not stop the senior from having his way down low. The 6’4 senior finished with a game-high 18 points and 13 rebounds as the Panthers could not keep him off the offensive glass. Pirie knocked down a pair of three-pointers and drove by his defender on multiple occasions. James Anderson may be the main guy for the Eagles, but Pirie proved that he is capable of dominating in the big games.
Simeon Wilcher, 6’2 SG Roselle Catholic 2023
The Lions needed someone in the backcourt to step up with Florida commit Niels Lane and Binghamton commit Richie Greaves missing the game. Xavier commit C.J. Wilcher hit the game-winning layup with 1.1 seconds remaining, but it was his younger brother who stole the show. The freshman guard took over for Roselle Catholic down the stretch as Manasquan could not keep him out of the lane. Wilcher finished with a team-high 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals. He may just be a freshman, but it looks like performances like these will be coming up in the near future.
Tim McEneny, 6’8 PF Manasquan 2020
The Warriors were so close to pulling off the monster upset, but they ultimately fell short 45-43. Sophomore point guard Ben Roy was named the team MVP for Manasquan, but he got a lot of help from McEneny. The Cornell baseball commit had a game-high 13 points, including three triples. His ability to shoot the perimeter jump shot allowed the Warriors to get more looks at the basket as Cliff Omoruyi had to step out to cover McEneny. Defensively, he stood his ground against Omoruyi as the talented center struggled with his shot down low. McEneny got the start because Alex Galvan was injured, but he definitely earned more minutes after his performance against Roselle Catholic.
Alex Bauman, 6’4 SF Red Bank Catholic 2022
Boston College football commit Charlie Gordinier may have been named MVP, but Bauman was the real difference-maker. Wall could not stop the sophomore wing from getting to the paint as Bauman lived at the rim. He handled the press with ease and made several nice passes throughout the game. Bauman’s defense on Wall star Quinn Calabrese was huge as the 6’3 senior ended up with four points. Bauman may end up playing football at the collegiate level, but his performance against Wall shows that he can play on the hardwood.
Azmere Wilson & Saadiq Armstead, 5’8 PG 2020/ 6’1 SG 2020 Neptune
The Scarlet Fliers’ senior guards were huge in their comeback victory over Rumson Fair-Haven. Wilson knocked down the game-winning free throws with .4 seconds left to take home the game MVP. He was the go-to guy in the second half for Neptune as Wilson seemed to make every big shot down the stretch. Armstead was unstoppable in the open floor as he was consistently able to get to the rim. He finished with a game-high 16 points, despite fouling out. Wilson and Armstead came up big for Neptune, which is a good sign for the Scarlet Fliers in 2019-20.
