1.) 2020 Cedrick Drahn, MFL-Mar-Mac – 65 assists
A 6-1 senior guard, Drahn not only leads the Bulldogs (and the state) with 65 assists so far this season, he also leads the team in scoring at 17.5 points a game. He’s already posted three points-assists double-doubles, and has come within a pair of assists of recording three more.
T2.) 2020 Keegan Edwards, Lone Tree – 61 assists
The 6-2 senior guard does a bit of everything for the Lions, leading the team in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals.
T2.) 2022 Austin Hilmer, North Linn – 61 assists
The younger brother of the state’s all-time assist king (Jake Hilmer), Austin would actually be at the top of this list if we were going by assists per game. The sophomore lead guard is averaging over 10 helpers a contest, helping pace a Lynx attack that is averaging 91.7 points a game.
4.) 2020 Braden Gibbons, Madrid – 55 assists
The senior guard also found himself on the top-10 list in scoring at the break, so it’s safe to say he’s having a monster senior season. He was tied for the most assists (last season) among returning players heading into the season, and he’s distributing the ball at a high level again for a high-powered Tigers attack that is averaging 77.7 points a game.
5.) 2020 Sam Porter, AHSTW – 46 assists
Porter isn’t much of a scoring threat, averaging just 5.9 points a game, but he’s been great distributing the ball for the 8-0 Vikings, posting a 46-10 assist-to-turnover mark so far.
6.) 2021 Taurice Grant, Meskwaki Settlement – 43 assists
Grant has been great this season, leading the Warriors to six straight wins heading into the break following a season-opening loss to Grand View Christian. He’s averaging 17.4 points and leads the team in assists and steals (34).
T7.) 2021 Blake Chance, Albia – 42 assists
Chance’s 14 assists against Centerville are tied for the highest total in a game so far this season (Central Decatur’s Michel Evertsen). The 6-4 lead guard has the Blue Demons off to a 6-0 start, and he’s leading the team in scoring at 14 points a game.
T7.) 2022 Dawson Forgy, Winterset – 42 assists
The sophomore lead guard helped lead the Huskies to a #1 ranking in 3A following a win over Norwalk. And while Winterset has since suffered a setback against Carroll, falling out of the top spot, Forgy and the Huskies are among the top teams in 3A and will be a contender all season. He’s averaging 10.8 points and has three times as many assists as turnovers.
T9.) 2021 Luke Rankin, Dallas Center-Grimes – 41 assists
The Mustangs have been one of the most impressive teams in 3A so far this season, racing out to a 6-0 start, and Rankin is a major reason why. The junior guard is averaging 18.7 points, leads the team with 21 steals and has turned the ball over only 7 times so far.
T9.) 2021 Brady Millikin, Pekin – 41 assists
The 6-0 junior has led a balanced Panthers team that has seven players averaging between 5.3 and 9.7 points a game. In addition to his distributing, he also leads the team with 19 steals.
The next 10: Carter Henry (2021, Crestwood; 40), Justice Jones (2021, Rockford; 40), Carter Lane (2020, Southeast Valley; 40), Maddox Griffin (2022, Wapello; 40), Daunte Oepping (2020, Winfield-Mt.
