But there are also players that deserve more headlines. These athletes are having great seasons, and fans, coaches, and scouts can’t forget about them.
Danyel Bibbs (2020, PG, Grand Rapids Union)
I’ve been really impressed with Grand Rapids Union and Bibbs is a big reason why. He’s only 5’8″, but plays bigger than that. Bibbs is quick on both ends and runs a nice floor game.
Devon Boyd (2020, PG, Grand Rapids Catholic Central)
His team has a ton of ranked talent, but Boyd is the conductor of the orchestra. He creates for himself and others. Boyd is currently averaging 20 points per game and dishing out 7 assists per contest. He’s unsigned, so college coaches will want to make that phone call ASAP.
Malachi Black (2021,PF, University Prep)
Black is a 6’7″ above the rim finisher. He can also stretch the defense with his ability to hit the triple. Black runs the floor smoothly and is dangerous in transition. Coaches and fans will want to see this versatile big man.
Ty Fortney (2021, PF, Wayne Memorial)
Fortney just suited up for Wayne Memorial for the first time. Let’s not forget about his dominance during grassroots season that earned him a spot in the top 10 among Michigan junior prospects. Fortney gets off the floor quickly and finishes with authority.
Joe Francis (2022, G, Adrian)
Francis is putting Adrian High School basketball back on the map. He’s just out on the court getting buckets. He can score naturally out of the offense as well as create for himself in isolation.
Orlando Lovejoy (2022, PG, Summit Academy)
Summit Academy may not be a huge school, but Lovejoy is a big time player. He’s so quick and smooth with the ball and can pull up from anywhere off the dribble. Lovejoy has D1 written all over him.
Malik Olafioye (2023, PG, Ecorse)
Every year there’s talk about the instant impact freshmen. I feel like Olafioye needs to be in the center of that conversation more often. He’s an explosive scoring point guard and can guide an offense even as a freshman.
