The game was close from the start but the Vikings eventually took control of the game with their nonstop full court defensive pressure. These are some of the players who stood out from the game.
Jonathan Murray, F (Huffman)
It was a good game for the class of 2022 forward. He dominated the game on the offensive end with the use of his soft hands and with the ability to make himself available in the post. Murray has a good frame and long arms and he is good at using his baby hook to get him out of tough situations in the paint. Has good footwork and showcased the ability to to turn over the left and right shoulder while finishing near the rim. Great motor for a player his size and showed no problems running the floor throughout the game. Can hit the open 3 if left open. Very good at catching and finishing in traffic. A young talent with all the tools to blossom into a complete player before his high school career is done.
Dequarrian Ezell, CG (Huffman)
Ezell was an instant spark off the bench for the Vikings. He immediately brought a heightened sense of urgency to the game. Has a good handle and great feel for the game. A very good shooter beyond the arc. Single-handedly shot Homewood out of their 2-3 zone. Fearless on the defensive end. Very tough minded guard that moves on to the next possession whether a good play or a mistake is made.
Jaquarius Sword, F (Huffman)
Sword runs the floor like a gazelle. His opponents have to be alert at all times when guarding him. Never stops moving on offense and uses his length very well on defense. A solid rim protector. He is good at altering his opponents shots when he is unable to get a clean block. Needs to work on his shooting and 1 on 1 moves/ball-handling. Although he is long and athletic, he needs to add more muscle to his skinny frame to become a dominant force in the paint.
Jamon Reed, G/F (Huffman)
Reed is a do-it-all player. Has the ability to play every position on the floor. At 6’5″ with length and good lateral movement, he is the anchor of the Vikings’ smothering full court press. Has great vision and high basketball IQ. His awareness and smarts alone gives his team an upper-hand on the opponents. Very solid handle. Good at attacking gaps and creating double teams to get his teammates open. Needs to work on his jumper and making a more conscious effort to look for his own shot on offense. Will be interesting to see the type of player he develops into once he learns to play with the same swagger on offense that he does on defense.
PJ Davis, CG (Homewood)
Davis stood out with his ability to pick and choose when to attack on offense. Plays the game at a great pace. Has very deceptive speed. Never lets the defense speed him up. Very smart player. A solid shooter from the perimeter but his jump-shot still needs work. Great at changing speeds to get angles to attack the basket. Rarely wastes any dribbles on offense. Needs to work on his defensive presence and awareness. A guard with nice size who is worth taking a closer look at.
Pate Owen, F (Homewood)
Owen is one of those players that you want on your team. Very tough and physical on both ends of the court. Does all the dirty work to try and help his team win. Not super athletic, but is good at using his body to get great angles and rebound. A very good three point shooter. Great at catching and shooting and rarely misses open shots.
