The Westover HS environment is always live and we are pleased to say that this game lived up to the hype without a doubt. Cape Fear held the lead for a pretty good portion of the game making it a double digit lead in the 3rd but Westover would come battling back make some big time plays to get the win 73-67.
Cape Fear HS Freshman Guard Tremayne Parker has 5 star potential! Any time you have an older brother who played on the D1 level and is pretty well known, you are going to have some pressure before you step on the court. We were interested to see how he would perform against one of the top teams in the city and he passed with flying colors. Not only was he able to be very effective scoring the ball but we also got the opportunity to see his gift for passing as well. Finishing with 26 points and coming back after going down with a wrist injury, he displayed some toughness that you love to see from a youngster.
Westover HS Junior Guard D’Marco Dunn is making his case as a HM prospect! This was our 2nd time seeing him in a big time matchup and once again he did not disappoint, putting together one of the more efficient performances that we have seen this year. He would finish with 24 points on 9/15 shooting all while playing within the flow of the team offensive scheme and giving good effort on the defensive side of the ball. At 6’4 with a silky smooth jump shot, a high IQ for the game and a nice amount of upside, it doesn’t take long to see why we are sold on him and why we feel D1 programs should be blowing up his phone right now.
Westover HS Senior Forward Traymond Willis-Shaw will be the X Factor! He’s shown some flashes of what he can be throughout this season and was solid throughout in this matchup. Blocking shots, rebounding and finishing inside were all things that we saw from him and would love to see him do even at a higher level. He has the potential to be a 20 point, 20 rebound player for this season which they will need if they want to compete for a state title.
Cape Fear HS Senior Guard Marquaill James is a college prospect! He was one of the leading scorers in the city of Fayetteville last season and although he has taken on less of a scoring role this season, we got the chance to see him do some impressive things Friday night. His quickness and athletic ability are two of the areas that impressed us as he got to the paint when he wanted offensively and made plays time and time again on the defensive end of the floor.
Westover HS Senior Guard Isaiah Bridges provided a much needed spark! With Westover facing a deficit and need a spark from somewhere, he stepped in and made some big time plays for the Wolverines. Coming up with some steals/deflections as well as two big time dunks that would get the crowd going, all helped to change the momentum for his squad. Bridges is the type of player that does a lot of good things for his team that you simply can’t measure by stats, he has good leadership qualities and is constantly on the court.
