Week 2 Rankings Update
The second week of the high school season was wild, with 17 of the 40 ranked teams dropping at least a game, which led to a tremendous amount of movement across the four classes.
In Class 4A, Iowa City West (3-0) took over the top spot following losses by Cedar Falls and Johnston, who were ranked 1st and 2nd, respectively. Waukee (3-0), a team we probably should have had ranked to begin the year, debuts at #2 following a win over then-#2 Johnston. The Warriors make the highest debut of any team this season and are the lone newcomer in 4A this week.
Winterset (4-0) takes over the top spot in 3A following their one-point win over then-#1 Norwalk (3-1). The Warriors dropped only a few spots to #3. Five new teams cracked the rankings in 3A, as this class continues to be the most difficult to rank on a yearly basis. Dallas Center-Grimes (4-0), Mount Vernon (4-0), Algona (4-0), Central DeWitt (4-0) and MOC-Floyd Valley (4-1) enter the rankings in spots 6-10.
Camanche (3-0) is the only top ranked team to hold onto their ranking this week. The top six in 2A remains the same, despite a loss by Monticello (5-1). The #2 Panthers suffered a one-point loss to 4A Cedar Rapids Washington and don't fall. All 10 teams that were ranked last week remain the same, with only North Linn (4-0) and Regina Catholic (3-1) flipping spots at #7 and #8.
Remsen, St. Mary's (4-0) takes over the top spot in 1A, while Montezuma (4-0) moves up a slot to #2. Bishop Garrigan (5-1) makes the biggest leap, going from #9 to #3 on the strength of a win over then-#1 Lake Mills. Madrid (4-1) is the lone newcomer this week.
