Calabrese scored 20 points in the Crimson Knights’ season opener. He shot just 2-10 from the field in their second game against Toms River South but his leadership ability was present early.
When your shot is not falling, it is important to find some other way to contribute to the team. Calabrese did just that by running the point and keeping his team under control. Toms River South played a 2-3 zone for much of the game against Wall. This meant that the Crimson Knights had to be patient and work their offense to try and get the best shot. Calabrese was at the top of their offense making sure his team remained under control.
Calabrese is a player who has always been able to score. He finished with 540 points during his junior campaign and did not miss a beat in Wall’s season opening win. Against Toms River South, Calabrese knocked down his first three but did not have much success on the offensive end from there. At 6’3, he has the size and athleticism to get the basket at will. He is also a strong shooter from the outside.
Wall is a dark-horse team in the Shore Conference this season. They are a mix of veteran players and newcomers who have immense talent. Most importantly, Wall is extremely well coached and it shows in their play on the floor. They are a team that does not panic and runs their sets until they get their shot. Calabrese acts as a second coach on the floor. He runs the point perfectly and his basketball IQ is always on display. Heading into the new year, Wall will be an intriguing team to watch.
