Prospect Spotlight: Ben Woodward (2023)
Georgetown Prep Freshman Ben Woodward is off to a strong start in his first year of high school basketball. The 6-foot-4 wing is averaging 10 points per game through the first 4 games of the season and is hitting over 2 threes per game. While he is known for his shooting, Woodward can find other ways to impact the game when his shot isn’t falling.
“I think my defense is underrated,” Woodward told Prep Hoops. “Whenever people see me, they think they can take advantage, but I know how to defend without fouling.”
We saw evidence of Woodward’s defensive impact in his team’s season-opening win over New Hope. He has the size to bang with bigger defenders in the paint. Woodward uses verticality to effectively challenge shots and does his due diligence on the boards by consistently boxing out his man.
“Over the summer I’ve been working on my ball-handling, getting to the rim, getting mid-range shots, and whenever I”m open I’m letting it go,” he stated. “I need to work on keeping my guy in front. Limiting baseline drives. And I need to keep working on my ball handling.”
Woodward has certainly been a welcomed addition to this new-look Georgetown Prep team led by Howard Blue. It will be a lot of fun to watch him develop over the years.
What are his goals?
“Our team goals are to win the IAC, keep getting better every day, keep working, get out and run every day, and wear the defense down. My individual goals are to keep getting better every day, work on my ball-handling, and keep letting it go.”
