This has led them to a quick 3-0 start on the season and a matchup with top-seeded Manasquan in the semi-finals of the WOBM Christmas Classic. This will be a measuring stick game for the Eagles.
Michael Dabas is one of the guards that builds Middletown South and he can fill up the score sheet in multiple ways. When watching the Eagles play, it is hard to ignore Dabas because he is all over the floor. He opened up the season with 14 points and five rebounds against Manalapan. He kept it going against Lacey in the Christmas Classic with 13 points, eight rebounds, and two assists.
In the quarterfinals against Red Bank Catholic, Dabas played his best game early on in the season. He scored 18 points to go along with eight rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and a steal. Dabas is the type of player that is always around the ball whether it is coming off the rim or rolling on the floor.
At 6’2, Dabas has solid size at the guard position but he has made a name for himself as a rebounder. He is averaging seven rebounds per game this season and it is because of his effort. Dabas has a sense for where the ball is going to land and he finds that spot. He is athletic enough to convert putbacks once the ball has come off the rim. Once a rebound is grabbed, he can either push it up himself or hit another of their talented guards with an outlet pass.
Middletown South is a team that likes to play fast. They use speed and outside shooting to dominate their opponents and it has worked early on in the season. Moving forward, Shore Conference teams will be alert when they see Middletown South on their schedule.
