Continue ReadingYou never know what you are going to see when entering the gym. The WOBM Christmas Classic is full of star players from all over the Shore Conference. One player that will put his name on the map throughout the week is Manchester’s Wyatt Hasselbauer.
In an opening round loss to Marlboro, Hasselbauer turned some heads with his leadership ability. After a slow first half, the 6’7 sophomore scored 24 of his 28 points in the final 16 minutes. Manchester fell behind after leading by ne at halftime but Hasselbauer led a charge that fell just short. They were able to cut a nine point Marlboro lead to just two but Manchester could never regain the lead.
Hasselbauer was the Hawks workhorse down the stretch of the game. They were able to throw him the ball download and let him go to work against the smaller defenders of Marlboro. What was most impressive about Hasselbauer was his ability to run the floor. Big men are not know for their ability to keep up with guards in transition but Hasselbauer did just that. He provided a big target for his guards in transition.
Manchester fell just short in this game but Hasselbauer showed that the future is bright. He proved to be a capable rebounder and scorer. On the defensive end, he was an anchor that protected the rim with great skill. the key to his defensive efforts was his ability to stay out of foul trouble. This is a player that will continue to grow and get better over his years at the varsity level.
The Hawks will now move onto the consolation bracket in the WOBM Christmas Classic. In those games, Hasselbauer will have more chances to show that he is a great talent in the conference. This will not be difficult for him to do.
