Continue ReadingDwight-Morrow is a program looking to improve upon their 2018-2019 season in which they went 17-11 overall and 11-1 in the Big North. After suffering a bad 82-54 defeat last season against Wayne Hills in the NJSIAA tournament Group 3 quarterfinals, Dwight-Morrow is aiming for more consistency and success during the 2019-2020 campaign.
Andres Fulgencio is a Star
The season is just kicking off, but that hasn’t stopped Andres Fulgencio from coming out the gate scorching. In a close back and forth matchup with Fort Lee to kick off the season, Fulgencio made his mark early, posting a dominating 28 points and 15 rebounds. Fulgencio is one of North Jerseys best for his ability to score at all three levels: at the rim, mid-range, and three-pointers.
Fulgencio has remained hot since his dominant performance against Fort Lee posting 21 points and 12 rebounds in the first round of the 2019 Jingle Bells Jubilee tournament; he followed that up with 25 points against a tough St. Peter’s Prep team.
Berlin Placid is an Impact Player
As Andres Fulgencio will receive the majority of hype surrounding Dwight Morrow this season, it would be a mistake to overlook the production of Junior small forward Berlin Placid.
Placid has scored in double digits in each of the Maroon Raider’s first three games — including an impressive 21 points outburst against Fort Lee in which he made three three-point shots. Placid can score, rebound and play defense as well, evident by his eight steals on the season. If Placid can continue this level of consistency throughout the season, Dwight-Morrow will be a tough matchup for most teams in North Jersey.
Dwight-Morrow Must Embrace Their Defense
Dwight-Morrow has several building black to feel good about during the season. One pivotal component for the Maroon Raiders will be whether they can play a complete game consistently. Often going on stretches where they either look tremendous or underwhelming, the team must be more consistent if they want to be among the very best in New Jersey. Keep an eye on senior forward Isiah Dolphy, who will look to help in anchoring the defensive efforts. In a recent defeat against St. Peter’s Prep, Dolphy helped in keeping the game close by making his presence felt with five blocks. Should Dwight-Morrow continue to get that level of production from Dolphy, it will go a long way for the team’s chances this year.
