Tim Broom – Douglas County
In the 5A/4A Continental split, there are plenty of teams all vying for one of the top spots. Douglas County is a team that has gone streaking as they are up to four straight wins and a big reason for that is the play of their point guard Tim Broom. Broom is the team’s leading scorer, rebounder and also with 6.2 assists a game as well leads the team in that category as well. He is having a great season as a scorer but is also making sure to get others involved in the right spots as well. Going into the Continental League with rhythm will be key and Tim Broom is a player we will make sure to take a look at very soon.
Marvin London Jr. – Pueblo East
Pueblo East is a high-scoring and entertaining team that is having a decent start to the season. They are putting up 70 points a game and a big reason for that pace has been the play of their quick and crafty guard Marvin London Jr.
He has been able to find his niche on a team with some very capable scorers and distribute the ball. He is dangerous in the open court, finds the open man and pushes it at the opposing team each time down. He is at a team-high 5.4 assists a game through nine contests and is a player to look at moving forward.
Blake Lewis – Cheyenne Mountain
With so much emphasis on teammate Javonte Johnson up there as he is one of the state’s top scorers and best players, other players on his team go under the radar. Well in this situation, it has gotten a few eyes on Lewis as he is surrounded by some very talented scorers and understands and accepts his role as the floor general for Cheyenne Mountain. While a lot of what he does is not flashy, he is able to do the dirty work for the Indians and is a big reason as to why they are 7-0 on the season. He rebounds at a high level from the guard spot and also keeps his head on a swivel. He understands pace and is not forceful and is in an easy role where he can be himself and watch his team rack up wins with him being the X-factor.
Dominic Nellis – Holy Family
When you start a team you look for a battle-tested captain that is going to push his players and do everything in his power to ensure a victory. That is exactly what you get from Nellis as he is the captain for the team and emotional leader. He may not score a ton of points and will have to be a bit more aggressive as a player that can get to the lane with ease but he makes sure to make the right play and keep everyone happy. He is at 5.6 points a game and keeps Holy Family in games with his decision making on the floor.
Will Maher – Mead
Mead is a team that coming into the season you knew was going to be good as they have a deep team with everything you could ask for. They have the size, shooters and role players who are bought in. They have four players in double figures including Maher who also happens to be the guard and facilitator. The only way a team with scorers like this can stay happy is with an unselfish guard with great vision and a high IQ and that is what you get out of Maher who has been a pleasant surprise out of Mead. Great start to the season and his 5.5 assists per game should be an average he can keep for the year with the players around him.
