Continue ReadingPine Forest got off to a quick start, jumping out to a quick 9-2 lead and extending that to double digits in the first quarter. Jack Britt would respond with a run of their own and trim the lead to just four points going into the half, switching the momentum back to the home team. The teams would go back and forth in the 2nd half with Pine Forest ultimately making a final run in the 4th quarter, holding on to the lead to get the win 64-56.
The Young Pine Forest backcourt has a chance to be really good! Pine Forest saw good production from their Sophomore Guard Tristan Harkins and Freshman Guard Isaiah Washington throughout the night. Harkins is a knock down shooter that doesn’t need much space to get his shot off, he hit some contested treys at the start of the night that helped to get his team going. Washington did the majority of his damage in the 2nd half as he saw more time on the ball and was able to score and facilitate at a high level. He does a nice job of finding gaps in the offense to make the correct play and showed a nice IQ for a player that’s only a freshman.
Jack Britt has quite a bit of size in the post! Featuring 2022 6’6 Demetri Patterson & 2020 6’5 Jordian Fox, the Bucs have a nice amount of size in the paint. Fox was close to a double/double with 10 points and 9 rebounds, while Patterson finished with 9 points and 3 rebounds. Both players got a good amount of touches in the paint and will have the chance to be very productive throughout the season.
Langston Davis could possibly be the X factor! Guard play will be one of the important areas for Jack Britt this season as we saw a few players running the show for them over the summer and during this matchup. Davis is a player that could see time on the wing as well as PG and the squad will need some good showings from him on both ends of the floor as well as bringing senior leadership. We like how well he rebounded the ball on the night, finishing with 13 points & 13 rebounds on the night.
Pine Forest HS Guard Marquis Eskew is picking up right where he left off! Eskew had a solid season last year, scoring the ball at a nice level and he seems to have the exact same plans this season. He finished with 17 points and 7 rebounds on a night that wasn’t necessarily his best scoring showing. The combination of his upper body strength and athleticism makes him a tough player to attempt to defend on the high school level.
Jack Britt Sophomore Jalien Robinson was a three point specialist! He came off the bench and brought some much needed three point shooting for Britt as they went on a run in the 2nd quarter. We liked how well he moved without the ball and seemed to fit in to the role that his team needed from him instead of trying to do too much.
