One of the powerhouses year in and year out is Roselle Catholic. CJ Wilcher will add to their star power for this upcoming season.
Wilcher will go from one top program to another. He played at St. Benedict’s Prep last season and decided to become a Lion for this season. Wilcher joins Cliff Omoruyi and Niels Lane at Roselle Catholic for the upcoming season where they are expected to be one of the best teams in the state.
At St. Benedict’s Prep last season, Wilcher averaged 17.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. At 6’5, Wilcher possess a skill set that will transfer over perfectly into the college game of today.
Wilcher has a verbal commitment to Xavier for next season. He was highly regarded in the Big East, offered by several teams, but he decided to go with Xavier for multiple reasons.
“The consistency made me feel comfortable,” said Wilcher. “Late night conversations, early morning conversations. Going into the official visit (earlier this week) I felt comfortable and once I got on campus I loved it.”
As a junior, Wilcher emerged as one of the best shooting guards in the nation. He was already a top player in the state but he became a star last season. Wilcher showed his ability to shoot the ball with great consistency. Whether it was off the dribble, spot up, or running off a screen, Wilcher lit it up every time he stepped on the floor. He knocked down 65 shots from three-point range last season.
The Big East is one of the top conferences in college basketball. It is full of teams that can shoot the ball from deep. He will fit in perfectly with the Musketeers who are in need of players who can shoot. Before he steps on the floor at Xavier, Wilcher and the Lions will have some unfinished business for the upcoming season. They are serious contenders to win the Tournament of Champions.
Wilcher’s transfer is one of the biggest ones announced in the offseason. He takes Roselle Catholic to another level joining an already stacked roster. Opposing defenses will have to have a hand in Wilcher’s face once he steps off the bus.
