Galvan was the leader for a Manasquan team that continued it’s tradition of success but this season was on a different level. Manasquan won the Central Group III title for the third since since 2009. They won every game by an average of 30 points. In the Shore Conference Tournament, Manasquan made a run to the final but was taken down by Ranney.
During the Shore Conference Tournament, Galvan averaged 19 points and 9,5 rebounds per game. He continued his strong play during the state tournament averaging 5.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. On the season, Galvan averaged 17.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. He was not only one of the best offensive players in the conference but he proved to be a true rim protector. Galvan averaged 1.6 blocks per game during his junior season.
Galvan broke out as a junior and it began early on. In a game against No. 20 Union Catholic, Galvan led Manasquan to a win with 30 points and 18 rebounds. He scored in double-figures in 30 of 33 games and finished with 21 double-doubles. At 6’6, Galvan is a dominant presence on the basketball court. What makes him special outside of his talent is his ability to make the right play when on the floor.
“I’m just playing the game the right way,” Galvan said. “I’m attacking the basket, getting foul calls and making my foul shots. I try to do my best every game to play team basketball and win.”
Galvan is a multi-talented athlete. He is a standout baseball player at Manasquan and has a verbal commitment to Louisville next season. The impressive part of Galvan’s game is his willingness to make the necessary play. If his team needs a rebound, Galvan will get one. If they need a bucket, Galvan is their No. 1 option. On defense, Galvan always makes the right play and times his jump well to become one of the best shot blockers in the conference.
Heading into 2019-2020, Galvan will be one of the best players in the conference once again. He was a First Team-All Shore Conference selection as a junior and his numbers will only improve as a senior. Manasquan could be in for yet another big season that ends in another state title and possibly a Shore Conference Tournament title.
