Thweatt made an immediate impact as a freshman at Wildwood Catholic and his game has continued to progress every season since he has been there. As a junior, Thweatt averaged 20.2 points and 10.7 rebounds. He led Wildwood Catholic to the Cape-Atlantic League title along with a trip to the South Jersey Non-Public B state final. The good news for the school is that he has one more year.
The 6’8 Thweatt has a commitment to play at West Virginia next season. He chose the Mountaineers over Florida, Temple, and Penn State. Thweatt is not the only Division I prospect on Wildwood Catholic. Jahlil White is also an exceptional talent and has committed to Temple. With these two running the show, Wildwood Catholic will once again be one of the best teams in the state.
“Their style of play fits his athleticism,” Wildwood Catholic head coach Dave DeWeese said of Thweatt. “But he still has a long way to go. I know he wants to play right away. These kids have excelled and worked very, very hard to get where they are, and they’re reaping the benefits of all their hard work.”
Thweatt had a breakout game against one of New Jersey’s standout programs. In a 56-42 win over The Patrick School last season, Thweatt scored 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. He scored in double-figures in every game last season and emerged as one of the top offensive threats in the state. Thweatt shot 36% from three-point range last season which gave him a complete skill set. He has the size and athleticism to compete at the next level.
Heading into the upcoming season, Wildwood Catholic will be a must watch team. They will even play a nationally televised game against The Patrick School that will be broadcasted on ESPNU. The steps that this program has taken are huge and they are much in part of production from players like Thweatt.
