Conference Commentary
State Contender: North
The North Polars will enter the season a Class AA state title contender and the overwhelming favorite to win the City Conference. Willie Wilson seems on the verge of being the next breakout big name in the state of Minnesota. He’s a sophomore while Davon Townley is a junior. I think Townley’s length, agility, and a step forward into upperclassmen maturity will led to him being a top ten prospect in the junior class. Add in a very good Clifford Brown and you have the top trio in this league.
Potential Top Ten: Henry
Henry was 16-12 last season and brings back nearly everything from last year. Henry only lost to North by 13 in the second game last year and with North being younger, and Henry being a team of seniors, those North/Henry games could be very good. Henry will be a back end top 20 team in Class AAA to start the year with a chance to move into the top ten.
Compete with Most: Edison, South, Washburn
Entering the year Edison is about a top 25-30 team in their class and in the top three of the city conference. They return three of their top four scorers and should have another balanced group of players. South has three of their four scorers back from an 8-17 team. Washburn will be better. In fact I’m not sure how they only won six games with a guy like Joshua Rogers on the team. Rogers leads the top four players back from the Millers 18-19 team.
Rebuilding: Roosevelt, Southwest
The Teddies lost nearly everything from a team that was four games under .500. Tough to know at this point. Southwest had four scoring options on a four win team last year but three have graduated. The best player is back but will be playing with several experienced role guys working for a better season.
