Conference Commentary
Potential Top Ten: Eden Valley-Watkins
The Eagles won the league a year ago and bring back their top three players in Jansen, Streit, and Beattie. Not only is EVW the heavy favorite in the league but they are also a team that could land in the state’s top ten of Class AA if things break correctly.
Compete with Most: Maple Lake, BBE, HLWW, Pierz, Paynesville Area
The Irish were one game under .500 a year ago and nearly half of their scoring production game from Mitch Hoistad. The team didn’t have much depth nor any size. Now they are without Hoistad but they do have a decent senior group. The team with the best overall record in the league last year was BBE, a team that has a pair of seniors and a pair of sophomores that will have them battling EVW for the league crown. HLWW lost their biggest player and their smallest player but in between everything else returns including junior Noah Bush. Pierz could be a 20 win team as most of last year’s 15-win squad returns led by a nice junior group. Paynesville Area may be the team to watch because they return seven of their top eight guys plus Corbin Froelich gives them a star to lean on.
Rebuilding: Kimball Area, Holdingford
Kimball Area had the second worst record in the league last year, and they were a team full of seniors with a standout in Drew Gustafson. Without them this team is starting completely over. Holdingford was the worst CMC team a year ago but they have a but more back than Kimball Area.
