Eagan has a chance to surprise some people this winter. The Wildcats have a nice crop of returning talent. The go-to guy is Kurt Ohlhues.

Ohlhues, a 6-foot-2 senior wing, averaged 12 points per game as a junior for the 11-win Wildcats. He’s excited about the prospects of a good senior year.

“We lost one guy from last year but we’ve got a lot of young talent in the program,” said Ohlhues. “I’ll guard some of the bigger guys. We’ll try to push the floor and play a faster pace. I think we can make a run at a top-four finish in our conference. I think we can be right there with some of those really good teams.”

Ohlhues has good size on the wing. He’s long and plays pretty physical. He is at his best when he’s slashing and getting to the paint where he’s a terrific finisher and a very good passer. Those tools help him on the defensive end too, as he’s a solid perimeter defender who is competitive on the interior and can rebound his position well.

“I’m a drive-first kind of guy but I’ve improved as a shooter too,” said Ohlhues. “I like to find my teammates when I can drive and draw defenders. I’m defensive-minded. I have the energy where I want to get up into guys and apply pressure. I want to be a leader for our team this year.”

Ohlhues has the tools to be a solid college player. He’s drawn quite a bit of local interest.

“I haven't taken any visits yet but I’ve talked to most of the schools in the MIAC and WIAC plus some Division II schools like Sioux Falls, Mankato and Jamestown,” Ohlhues said.
