They are not the only two talented players in the class as 2021 is loaded with high level talent. Here are five players in the class of 2021 who are flying under the radar.
Jerome Brewer, SF Camden
Small forwards with three Division I offers do not fly under the radar, but that is the case with Brewer. The 6’6 forward led Camden in scoring last season with 15 points per game, despite playing with high major teammates Lance Ware and Ta’Quan Woodley. Brewer is a smooth scorer who excels at getting to the basket.
He is a decent outside shooter as he made 34 three-pointers last season. Last season was Brewer’s first as a varsity basketball player. The Camden small forward should break out in a big way as the Panthers should be one of the top teams in South Jersey.
Josh Rivera, SF Roselle Catholic
It’s easy to get overlooked when you play on a loaded basketball team. Rivera is a prime example of this as Roselle Catholic has six players with high major offers. He is not a big-time scorer, but he doesn’t have to be with the talent around him.
Rivera is the ultimate glue guy that will do anything to win. He is a tough defender who can also attack the offensive glass. Roselle Catholic does not need another high level scorer, but Rivera’s contributions on the defensive end could help the Lions win the Tournament of Champions this season.
Malik Austin SF, Hudson Catholic
The third small forward on this list, Austin is in a unique situation. For starters, he will primarily play in the post as he is Hudson Catholic’s tallest player at 6’5. Austin proved at the Northeast Fall Invitational that he can be a versatile scorer with three three-pointers in two games.
He is also an adept finisher around the rim and can rebound the ball in traffic. Austin has only one Division I offer, but his offer sheet should grow before the end of the season. He is the perfect complement to star guard Zion Cruz as the duo looks to regain Hudson Catholic’s dominance in Hudson County.
Gavin O’Farrell, PF St. Peter’s Prep
O’Farrell had a coming out party against University at the Northeast Fall Invitational. He had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He also had four steals in the game, showing his defensive value.
O’Farrell has a soft touch around the basket and good footwork in the post. His ability to score down low will open up more opportunities for star point guard Mark Armstrong. O’Farrell is due for a breakout junior season and might be the deepest sleeper in the class of 2021.
Bakir Cleveland, SG University
While University lost both of its games at the Northeast Fall Invitational, it found a quality perimeter scorer in Cleveland. The 6’4 guard was the only player to get into double figures in both games with 21 total points. He excels at attacking the basket and is able to beat defenders off the bounce at will.
Cleveland is a solid perimeter defender as Elijah Perkins and Armstrong struggled offensively against him. He also excels on the glass and is one of the best rebounding guards in his class. Cleveland is the biggest sleeper in the class of 2021 and will have a monster junior season for University.
