Moving On: Leading scorers Jacob Beeninga and Luke Paulson graduated as did role players Keaton Heide and Connor Hale. Four of the nine players from the Trojan rotation including three starters (Heide started with Beeninga and Paulson). Beeninga is at Minnesota State-Moorhead now as he was one of the top seniors in the 2019 class but the good thing for Wayzata is they have guards ready to step into bigger minutes.
Returning Starters: Kody Williams and Camden Heide. Kody is arguably the best junior point guard in the state of Minnesota right now while Camden Heide is the number one ranked sophomore in the state of Minnesota according to a couple national services. Williams scored ten a game last season and is a top defender while the shooting stroke and athletic ability of Heide could make him a first team all state player this year. Camden scored 13.5 a game as a freshman.
Reserves Playing a Bigger Role: Three Wayzata Trojans off last year’s bench will play bigger roles with junior Eddie Beeninga at lead guard and sophomore Carter Bjerke in the post. Carter has face-up range but also a big frame that should work very well in the Lake Conference paint. Beeninga is the latest family member ready to make a big Trojan impact and he’s coming off a 16u all state season with the Fury. Six-foot-3 senior wing Jacob Wildermuth scored 2-3 times a game last year and was a trusted team player, he should have a bigger role as well.
Potentials from the JV: The 2022 class of Trojans is talented so you could see 6-foot-3 Ryan Harvey and six-foot Drew Berkland move into roles with classmates Heide and Bjerke. Seniors Grant Bokovitz, Winston Knox, and Jack Martinson are among the players that could also fill out the line-up.
